How many ounces does it hold? 8 ounces?

If you are looking at a fluid ounce capacity, I filled mine with water, then poured that into a measuring cup. 6 oz. of liquid is what this mortar will hold. Hope this helps.

is the interior smooth or grooved?

It is Grooved, which makes cleaning sometimes difficult , but nothing a good vinegar rinse wont get out.

Either the webpage is wrong or manufacturer changed because I just bought this Aug 2022 and the box says made in china. I specifically purchased this mortar and pestle because it said it was made in Taiwan. Very disappointed. Would love to hear from seller.

It's about 2 inches deep and it is rough on the inside The tip of the pestle is also rough
