Not bad
An interesting read, but to get the most out of it you should be willing to do all of the physical exercises. Some of them require a partner to help you. I'm not completely dedicated to everything, but it's a good read.

Quick and Effective
Longtime martial artist and author Phil Pierce has put together a effective book on how to defend oneself in 3 seconds or less. This book is a definite help to one who has no martial art experience but can also be an effective review to one who has experience. As explained by the author your best bet when faced with an unexpected, unprovoked attack is to flee if possible. Though it is the most effective it is not always the first choice as running away from trouble is viewed in society as cowardly. The tactics in this book are for when you have to defend yourself quickly , like in three seconds. There is plenty of useful advice concerning awareness and preparedness, protecting your head and defense from the ground after falling. There are common street attacks illustrated such as choke, bear hug, attack from behind and lapel grab. In todays society one can become a victim at any time, having some self defense knowledge can be the difference between life or death or serious injury. You can't go wrong in reading and using this book, give it top your loved ones and help them be prepared. Recommended.

At best this is only a fair book on the topic of self-defense. There are numerous better books listed on Amazon on this topic.
As someone who has been into numerous martial arts (Judo, Jujitsu, Karate, Wrestling, Boxing, Combatives, and Defensive Tactics etc.) and weapon arts (Kenjutsu, Wakizashi-Jutsu, Tanto-Jutsu, Combat shooting) for longer than I care to remember, I am always seeking more information which might improve my skills. The title of this book is catchy, “How to Defend Yourself in 3 seconds or less” by Phil Pierce; unfortunately, it is not a very good book.Positive points:This is not to say this text did not have some valuable tips, which is why I gave it three stars instead of one star. Some of these good points include: an easy 1, 2, and 3 approach, good basic awareness information, simple and easy to learn basic striking techniques with large photographs, information on how to be prepared and good target selection for self-defense.Negative points:I really have a thing about how to write “how-to-do” books, having written more than 50 training manuals myself. Sadly, this book is missing two VERY IMPORTANT things every instruction book should have. (1) There are no page numbers in this entire 128 page book (I had to count the pages). (2) I am always amazed when an instruction manual does not have a table of contents. I strongly suggest the author and publisher of this manual consider adding these two VERY BASIC aspects in any future books. I also found the author only had limited experience in the grappling arts and other forms of combatives and weapons. There are other things that could have made this a more effective and informative book but the above is sufficient for this review. In conclusion, this is a fair book at best for anyone seeking practical and efficient self-defense information. I suggest you check out the huge self-defense books listed on Amazon before making a decision as to which book to purchase.Rating: 3 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Martial Art Myths)
