It works perfectly. Great deal. I used it in the upgrade process to install my new ssd drive. First I put my new larger capacity SSD into the startech enclosure and cloned my c drive to it. Then I replaced my old ssd with the new one and I have a new larger ssd. I would not have been able to do all that without the enclosure. Now my old ssd is in the enclosure and used as an external USB drive. Saved me some money and I end up with an extra external fast usb drive. The only thing that could be better is the way the enclosure holds the drive. I don't know if there are enclosures that don't require screws and you can just snap in and snap out like ram cards. This way is ok but I can imagine better. It's still a five star product because it is not needed for continuous in/out drive replacement. And probably a fancier system would be more expensive.

Works well enough that my employer is now purchasing them for data recoveries in our Asset Depot. With more laptops using m.2 SATA drives, this thing is becoming less optional and more necessity. - Expected transfer rates. - No heat issues. - The PCB slides into the enclosure along extruded rails and is a good fit. Minimal noise from movement. - For frequent access you can leave one end open and use a rubber band to keep the PCB in place. It's not the most elegant solution, but when you put a new drive in 5+ times a day, it's certainly more convenient... also safer than leaving the PCB sitting outside of the case.

Did exactly what I needed. I had an m.2 256GB Sata SSD (Micron 1100) that originally came with a laptop I put a Samsung Evo 960 500GB m.2 NVMe PCIe drive in. It was just sitting around and I was considering getting a SD card for another laptop, but the SD wouldnt be fast enough (write) for what I needed. This is smaller than an external pre-bought drive and based on the drive in it much faster than any SD card. Using this with a Dell i5379-5893GRY-PUS laptop and it works perfectly (granted im using Manjaro KDE Linux). Benchmarked the drive is doing about 450MB/s read and 400MB/s writes, which is what I expected to see from the specific drive I was using. The enclosure itself was well packaged, came with all the screws and a small screw driver along with the USB type A to B cable which is about 1ft long. Install was easy and once assembled seems very sturdy and well made. It does have a small indicator light on the end with the USB port, which is white in color and blinks on activity. I am very happy with it as I was able to take a SSD I had no other use for and turn it into a very fast, reasonably small external drive that wouldnt be a burden to carry around with the laptop while traveling. I primarily use it for KVM VM images/files that I do not use frequently. It worked perfectly for this letting me install Windows 10 within a VM in about 5 mins.
