those who enjoy 3D Brawlers
An improvement over every previous game in the series, minus one (more on that in a bit), Senran Kagura Estival Versus is truly a gift to multiple groups of video game fans: those who enjoy 3D Brawlers, those who enjoy AAA games on a mobile system, those who like amazing localizations while still retaining every bit of character from the source culture, and of course, those who enjoy copious amounts of fanservice.First, the negative: lack of co-op storyline mode. While it seems like this may have been an exclusive to Senran Kagura 2: Deep Crimson based on the focus of its storyline, I find myself having to tell people that this one does not have the feature which I touted very loudly when SK2:DC came out. Not a huge setback but it does mean that I can't sell this on people I enjoy playing games with, with the attraction of being able to play it together in some non-competitive way.Besdies that, everything here is a step up from previous Vita entry Shinovi Versus and latest 3DS release Deep Crimson.Tamsoft has worked incredibly hard to get their games to look good on the mobile gaming systems, and Estival Versus is absolutely one of the most staggeringly good looking on the Vita/TV based on engine alone. The fluidity of the various combat scenes, the smoothness of the animated cutscenes, the high resolution art renders and 3d models, it's actually quite jawdropping when looked at from a technical standpoint. There are PS3 games that look worse than this, and a massive amount of kudos should be heaped onto the hardworking members of the Tamsoft team who brought this game to life. I've yet to play the PS4 version, but if the Vita one is anything to go by, I would say it keeps their level of standard. The localization by XSEED Games is, of course, 100% on point. I have always enjoyed their work bringing Japanese titles to the states, going all the way back to Retro Game Challenge (Game Center CX 1 for the DS). They've found some kind of verbal alchemy that keeps the game feeling incredibly Japanese in word tone but have brought the jokes out in full force that are still relevant to Western culture. That is not an easy balance to maintain, but their previous work in the series again is to their credit and they've up'd their game here again. If you disagree, I'm sure you'll be getting a swift "foot right up your bahonkas".The story is engaging while being lighthearted for the most part. Dealing with some subjects related to mortality, spirituality, the afterlife, the definition of right and wrong and the paths that life sets us on, all are brought up with some sense of seriousness but the majority of the time its just fun in the sun, goofing off and the cast of characters being the charming ladies that they are! The animated segments are a huge plus here and really ground it in the source medium of anime, beautifully rendered and tastefully inserted as key scenes in the story.Improvements to the gameplay include a ridiculously smooth 3d engine upgrade, changes to the camera functionality, modifications of the battle mechanics (for example, changing how frantic mode is engaged by featuring both touch screen and button command methods). I could prattle off a list of things that have been added or changed from Shinovi Versus but, at the end of the day, it all takes what worked in Shinovi Versus and makes a good amount of it even better. The soundtrack, which is included along with an artbook and a pack of foil trading cards in the "Endless Summer" edition of the physical release (I honestly prefer the Japanese name for it, Summer of Swimsuits), is worth the price of entry alone. It's a fantastic mishmash of Japanese world music, Summertime synth tracks, audacious fighting rock, and even goofy adventure music that reminds me a lot of everything I love from the soundtracks of the Goemon/Mystical Ninja series. Another awesome set of discs to keep going in your car when you can't play the game.Is it a perfect game? No. Is it something that you could consider a classic by traditional artistic gaming standards? No, I wouldn't say its on the level of Chrono Trigger or Journey or Super Mario Bros. But the game is outstandingly fun and well executed on practically every level.Beneath the veneer of lewdity and the allure of egregious fanservice lurks a game that knows what it is and revels in it, and gives you a fun experience that you'll want to come back to time and time again in order to unlock every piece of artwork, music, and lingerie the game offers you.I'll see you all at the beach for the Shinobi Bon Dance!

Highly recommended for those who love hack-and-slash hecticness, fanservice, or both.
Whether you like fanservice or not, the game has interesting characters and a really fun battle system. None of the characters feel like clones, and their uniqueness is enhanced by their personalities. The level of costume customization is fantastic, and while there are a lot of DLC customization for sale, they are nowhere near necessary to purchase. There are also additional characters to buy online but the game is made in such a way that you don't feel that you are missing the additional characters at all - something that irks me with a lot of action and fighting games, such as Street Fighter 5.That being said, this IS a game that is heavily focus on one of three audiences: one who likes combo-heavy, hack-and-slash games with the pacing of Dynasty Warriors except at double speed, one who likes a ton of anime fanservice, or one who likes both. My rating was given with those groups in mind, as the game makes no effort to advertise itself as designed for anyone outside those groups. If you fit in any of these groups, I highly recommend giving this game a try.

uhh title
as a woman that likes waifu games, this is amazing! but what i’m disappointed in is that i was really looking forward for an artbook and others but i just got it in a bag. like no cover for the disk which was disappointing. but that aside, the game came earlier than i expected! i’m now looking forward to getting shinovi versus since i finished this game.

Huge breasted beautiful dynasty warriors
The special edition comes with a big outer box, the regular blue vita case, an artbook, and a 2 disc soundtrack. I have put in a few hours into the game so I cant give a great review. I can say as a first time player of this series the combat reminds me of Dynasty Warriors. But besides the combat it is nothing like it. You have sexy huge breasted women who beat up other women with barely any clothes in different stages. The main story seems to be stages with different characters in small battles. It is not a free roam game. There is also a HUGE patch right now for the game to use online. I did the first one at 1.8 gb but now it wants ANOTHER 1.8gb patch. I think it is for extra costumes, characters, and levels. Anyway in conclusion the game is a japaneese anime style action game. There isnt anything I have played exactly like it so I dont know anything besides dynasty warriors to compare it to.

Even Better Than Shinovi Versus!
My first Senran Kagura game was Shinovi Versus, which I loved the ever loving crap out of, so when I found out that a sequel was coming out I was all onboard. All in all, I'd say this game is all around better. In the previous game the different schools had different missions, so if ye got a character ye liked ye were only able to use them in a handful of stages. In this however, once ye've got the story mode and girl's heart missions clear, yer free to use whoever ye want in whatever stage strikes yer fancy. Beyond that there's not all that much to add. As other people have stated, the Versus series has a very Musou feel to it so if ye like those style games ye'll love this. Beyond that it's dripping with fan service, which can be good or bad depending on yer personal politics I guess. My only gripe with it is that at the moment, the Ikki Tousen characters (Sonsaku Hakufu, Kanu Unchou, and Ryofu Housen) are not available in the NA release due to licensing issues. I was admittedly already going to get this game before I found out the Ikki Tousen characters were even in it, but when I found Youtube videos with people playing as those characters I was over the moon (I'm a big Ryofu fan). It was therefore a big blow to me to discover that its unlikely we'll get them over here (but here's hoping anyway). Ye CAN get Ayane from DOA as a DLC character though, so there's still that.On the upside, Rin and Daidoji are free DLC. This game could seriously just be Rin and I'd still give it 5 stars.

Better than Naruto fighting games
Same type of engine for the fighting system but with much better camera control.A lot of characters to choose from, all with different fighting style.Release your inner perv, put your bloody fighting games down and discover the joy of ripping your opponent's clothing to shreds. All of it done with great humor.
