Waterway Plastics 310-4190 Impeller for Executive Pmp 4Hp

Worked well. I have the old style 4 HP wet end pump. The old impeller had a 4 stamped in the plastic where the water flows in. The one I purchased was also marked but not in the same place.

After reading the reviews I went ahead an ordered this impeller, despite some saying it was the wrong size for a Waterways 4 hp Executive pump. I was hoping to rebuild my spa pump, but wound up having to cut the old impeller off the shaft. Here’s what I learned: The old, circa 2011 impeller is a tan color with model numbers for 3,4, and 5 hp stamped on the outside vane cover. The vanes themselves were stamped “4 hp”. From watching a YouTube video, I learned that the difference in impellers was the thickness, or height of the vanes. The front and back covers are the same castings. Makes sense from a manufacturing point of view, just change vane width for the various hp capacities...More vane moving more water, needing more hp, and just stamp the vanes with the appropriate rating.The replacement impeller is black plastic with only one model number stamped on it for the 4 hp rating. But, as other reviewers have noted, it’s vanes are taller and it’s a different diameter. I boxed it back up and scheduled a return. Meanwhile, I decided that what was left of the rusted motor shaft was marginal and I ordered a new Executive 4hp pump from a different online store (that I love to hate -great price, by the way). It arrived before my Amazon impeller return was scheduled so I took the impeller out of the new pump for comparison and they were identical, as in exactly the same. I decided to cancel the return and keep the impeller for a future rebuild. Apparently Waterways changed their impeller manufacturing sometime during the past 10 years. As I mentioned, the new 4 hp impeller, compared to the old, has “taller” vanes and is about a half inch less in diameter.Now, did they change the pump’s volute (case) in the past ten years to match the new impeller? Probably not, but I forgot to check before installing the new pump. In five years or so when I have the pump out for (preventative) seal replacement, I’ll check and post.
