Great back up
I am use to using my manrection (manliness combined with my great natural sense of direction) I rely on this when my cell phone has a poor signal for the GPS. It's not always a time saver, but I still get where I'm going...eventually. This is a reliable alternative to asking for directions (not sure what that is, but heard of it), batteries, and signal. Dora the Explore Map talks but it is no where as detailed as this one. She still need help finding where she needs to go. Size is good and pretty much what I expect. Also it's less likely to get stolen, because it may require reading.

this is easy to read
this is easy to read, but only if you know how to read prior to obtaining this atlas. the medium size made it perfect for use in the smartcar. a smaller atlas would have made me feel a fool, as using a tiny atlas in a tiny car made me feel overly large, and a larger atlas would have made operation of the vehicle tantamount to 'blind driving' as the kids say. all in all, the rand mcnally medium sized easy to read atlas lives up to its name. there are no hidden agendas here, like my cousin sidney has.

Why a map? ... you have a GPS
Why use a map?Because the car GPS just said I was in the water and lost signal 5 miles back.Just get a new GPS?I wanted a road atlas as a backup. I drive often and I sometimes need to know the fastest route.Foldable map?I dont like folding those things back. I was never good at it.The book is nice. The one qualm I have is the the text can be a bit tiny and details a big vague in places you may want more familiarity in. It has all major cities in the US and that's just fine by me.

Great map but...
The maps in the book are great. It just would have been so much easier to use if the states we were using were not on pages that had to be flipped back and forth. It got a little aggravating but we carried on! It is a very handy size to have in the side of your door and so much easier than opening a full page state map so I guess the down side is overcome by the positives!

2013 road atlas
We are using this to keep track of all of the travels we are doing starting in July. We are going on a bus trip and it is fun to see where you are in relation to where you are going. Since I ordered the 8 1/2 x 11 size it will be very portable. It has information that we will use on the trip. I would recommend this atlas to anyone not having a problem reading the smaller print. For what I ordered it for it will be great.

spiral pain
I have used the Rand McNally Road Atlas for years and replace the one that travels in my car every couple of years. I find this easy read edition a disappointment on several levels.#1. The spiral spine cuts off details on almost every page. No overlay allowance was made so what the spiral cuts out is gone for good.#2. The Cities and Towns index is very limited and seems somewhat capricious as to which ones are included and which ones where left out.#3 Lots of roads are not even shown! I am not talking about fire roads and unpaved bypasses but lovely country roads that are often a life saver when there is construction or other road limitations.I wish I had not tossed the Atlas that had been in my car for the last couple of years because I find this one very disappointing.

Who knows when your GPS will go on the fritz?
I used these in "Bug Out Bags" for my kids to keep in their cars. Love the spiral binding so it opens flat and doesn't distress the book to stay on a certain page. It covers the entire continent! Extremely affordable as well, I think I paid eight bucks a piece for 9 of them and am planning to order more.

Very Badly Done
This is the worst atlas I have ever had. I will have to keep the cheapie atlas I bought last year at Wally World to use to supplement this one. I am uploading sample pictures to show problems that I see. For example, look at the map of the state of Georgia. Notice that the lines of the road at the binding does not line up and that there are areas on the maps where very few roads are listed and all the smaller and alternate roads have been eliminated. Are those areas of the state without any roads? What is the value of a road atlas without the roads being listed? On the other hand, in giant letters Cumberland Island National Seashore is noted, but you can't drive there, as a matter of fact, you can only get there by chartered boat. So why is it given prominence on this road atlas?Another problem with this map is that a lot of the maps are chopped up making it impossible to see how the map pieces are related. This could have been avoided if they would have included a simple 3x3 map of that state so you could tell what you are looking at and how various maps are related. It would have helped if the pieces of the maps would have been numbered. Alaska and Hawaii are squeezed onto the same page. Those maps are useless.

Useful Road Atlas
Used the maps to plan my trip to the USA and used whilst out there. Helped in assessing distances from one destination to another and glad I purchased.
