A Theory of the Consumption Function

This is the work that Milton Friedman is most proud of and is a seminal work on economics but it is very technical.

Many economists believe that this is the best book ever written by Milton Friedman. Though my favorite is his book "A Monetary History of the United States: 1867-1960", coauthored with Anna J. Schwartz, "A Theory of the Consumption Function" is undoubtedly one of his best books. So many great ideas came from this book, such as permanent income hypothesis (PIH) and long-run consumption function, and others were induced from it, such as Lucas critique and random walk theory of consumption. In fact Friedman himself had applied PIH to studies of money demand, optimum quantity of money, and the restatement of the Quantity Theory of Money. It is definitely a thoughtful and heuristic book in macroeconomics.

Excellent book by Nobel Laureate Milton Friedman. Product arrived promptly, has a sturdy feel, and is just as expected. The book is one of the main influences in Friedman's winning of the Nobel Prize in 1976 and has contributed to a great amount of discussion and research. Friedman is still to this day one of the most cited economists in the study and this book is one of the key reasons as to why.

if you want to be informed, this is the book to be read about economics.

Timeless insights. Everyone in America needs to read this book. It should be required reading in High School and College.

This book is a classic, and a must read for anyone majoring in the field of economics. Easy to read and understand. Highly recommended.

The book arrived quickly. While it does have some underlining of words...it is the 1957 edition and is what I wanted.

The cover of this book and the online description "A Theory of the Consumption Function" by Milton Friedman is obviously a reprint. Unfortunately, the print component of the reprint is "Case Studies of Reparative Therapy" by Joseph Nicolosi, Ph.D. Amazon should review this provider and correct the clear failure to adequately quality control the book source.
