Govee WiFi Thermometer Hygrometer H5179, Smart Humidity Temperature Sensor with App Notification Alert, 2 Years Data Storage Export, Remote Monitor for Room Greenhouse （Only Support 2.4G Wi-Fi）

I didn't realize how hard it was to find a wireless thermometer for my deep freezer (wifi or ZigBee). This sensor is wifi based and has had no connection issue in my freezer in the garage. It was rated to -4degrees which is perfect for my freezer. I did have to add about a 2 degree shift to the calibration, just turn it on, leave it in a place that you know the actual temp for about an hour or two and use the app to change the calibration. The app is very easy to use. I highly recommend this one over the others.For home assistant users: I found a forum that explained how to use rest commands to bring the wifi data into home assistant. This worked great and was very easy to get integrated!

This has been a perfect solution to my issue. I have a server closet that has a mini-split ac unit that will occasionally have a issue and if I don't check the room often I don't know and it can get too hot with those servers running. This was a perfect solution where I can check the temp but also set an alarm so as soon as it exceeds a temp I get notified. The setup was easy however my device did not work. I contacted their support team and they sent me a replacement right away which worked perfectly so support was fantastic.

Easy wi-fi setup, excellent app, and build quality appears good. I bought it to monitor the humidity in a crawlspace. Govee advertises hygrometer accuracy of +/- 3% RH, which I checked to my satisfaction using the salt test. It's too soon to tell how well the Govee lasts in a crawlspace, but I'm guardedly optimistic based on what I've seen thus far. I'd buy it again.

I bought two sensors to monitor the inside temperature at our off grid cabin in the winter when we are not usually up there. They were easy to set up and I tested them at our house for a week to make sure they worked before installing them at the cabin. It’s about a 1.5 hour drive to get there so I was hoping not to have to make several trips to get it right. It was pretty easy to get them connected to the Wi-Fi at the cabin and they worked well for about a month. Then one day I noticed that one of the sensors had lost its Wi-Fi connection. There is no way to reset it remotely so I was planning to drive up there on the upcoming weekend and check it out. But magically, the next day both sensors were again working. That held for a week then it lost the connection again for two days. For the last two months, either sensor will randomly lose then regain its connection in a day or two. Fortunately, so far at least one of them has always been connected. I did send a report to Govee but their reply was not real helpful. Mainly they advised that I go there and reset them. But since they seem to reconnect on their own I don’t see the need for that.Right now I can work with this random connection issue, since the majority of the time they are working as expected. If it gets worse I’ll contact Govee again.But overall I do like these sensors and the Govee app. For the price it’s doing a good job providing the information we need.

Use this in my green house. Long battery life. Works well. Way to set up. Temperature seems accurate. Has been in green house a year and still going strong.

Update to original review below:Govee Technical Support says that it found the problem described below and pushed an update to all affected devices on August 21, 2021. Indeed, all four of my Govee devices are now functioning perfectly well. And the best part of it is that I had to do nothing... the problem just "corrected itself".I changed my rating from 1 star to 5 stars since the basic unit functionality is really very good. I am assuming that Govee did indeed really fix this issue and that in the future the units will not appear to have lost Wifi connectivity when they actually have not lost it.Thank you, Govee!Original Review:I have four of these Govee units running into two widely separated physical location. Each location uses Nest (by Google) WiFi routers.When it works, the Govee app reports the appropriate temperature and humidity data. However, sporadically, the Govee units report that they have lost WiFi connectability and stop reporting all data. At that point, if the Govee unit is local to you, you can use the app to correct this situation. However, if the Govee unit is not accessible from your location, it is useless until it can be accessed via Bluetooth from the app. All four of my units have gotten to this state, so it is not a particular physical device that has the problem.I used the words "the Govee units report that they have lost WiFi connectability" intentionally, because I believe that they actually have NOT lost WiFi communications ability. I think that there is a software bug that is leading to them reporting that, and to stop displaying data, even though it is not true.The Nest WiFi system monitors usage of all devices. It maintains data on devices (such as phones) even after they have completely physically disconnected. If the same device subsequently logs onto the Nest WiFi system, the statistics go into the same bucket.The Govee device is very clever and (presumably to save battery) completely disconnects from WiFi when it is not reporting data. However, each device seems to have a unique ID beginning with "ESP" and thus its WiFi usage can be tracked by the Nest WiFi system despite its complete disconnection from WiFi..Much to my surprise, all of my Govee devices that are marked in the Govee app as not having WiFi connectability, regularly connect and upload and download data (presumably to a Govee server). Furthermore, their upload and download byte counts are approximately the same when the Govee app shows them as connectable to WiFi and when it shows as not connectable to WiFi.This would seem to indicate that the Govee device sometimes CAN connect to WiFi even when the Govee app shows that it cannot. It would seem that some event occurs to make the Govee app flag the device as not-connectable and not report data even though the device is actually connecting and apparently reporting data to the Govee servers.Govee support seems to be really good if you are having routine setup issues. They are patient and walk you through what you need to do. However, in this case, they suggested that I have "someone" that was local to the Govee device download the Govee app, connect via Bluetooth, and reset the WiFi connection. This is obviously not a viable solution for remote monitoring.Since the Govee units go to this state regularly (it seems to take about three or four weeks), it makes them effectively unusable for long-term monitoring.Which, I think, is a pity, since the unit itself really works and makes a lot of "sense" for remote monitoring.I have entertained the idea that there is something nefarious going on here, since these devices are placed in people's property, and connect on a regular basis to the Govee server. But it seems to me that is really a software bug.

Just received the thermometer this morning. Easy to set up with the Govee app. Immediately paired with my iPhone and my Google WiFi network.I am placing it in the attic to monitor temperature because I have three solar powered fans to reduce overall attic heat. During the peak of summer before the fans, I had measured over 140 degrees. The fans should help to lower AC bills (I live in Texas).The device is reasonably priced, simple and well built. Bravo Govee!

I bought this 3 years ago. Had to change the batteries after about 2 years. It’s been working perfectly. I like being able to read the temperature and humidity remotely on my cell phone. I just ordered 2 more.
