The writing of the book is more or less like a file
This was an interesting book to read and it was since one was made to wonder which unsolved cases would be included. Although a few notorious cases that were all the news were included there was also enough that it kept the true crime angle interesting and giving the reader a chance to explore a topic that can be much harder to digest, which is what happens when justice truly hasn't yet been found and the victim vanishes to all but those tenaciously holding onto their memories. It is a quite somber read for it shows just how much time hasn't been friendly to some cases but at the same time shows just how much people in their own carelessness and stupidity can also stop the wheels from turning. It is a shame that in some cases the crime may have been solved if things had been left alone and/or done right to begin with. The writing of the book is more or less like a file. Each entry has a summary title followed by the name of the victim(s). From there it goes into a Quick Fact format with the victim's name, location, suspects, etc. And then each entry is further presented with a past build-up of the victim, the night in question, the following search, suspect, trials if any and/or the conclusion. Although there were a few spelling errors if you could get around to understanding what the author meant it didn't take away from the telling of itself. In the end I would be more than happy to read some of his other true crime novels to see what they are all about and would at least recommend this book for true crime readers who may want a change from the usual solved crimes book.

Highly recommended for crime aficionados
For those who love a good crime story or whodunit, there’s nothing more compelling than the real deal. Why delve into fiction when there are so many intriguing unsolved real crimes? That’s exactly what Riley does in “Murders Unsolved”; delve into the titillating world of unsolved murders from the past. In fact, I really enjoyed the fact that all of these stories were from some time ago. Because of this, many of the cases were new to me and the author definitely selected a fascinating range of unsolved murders.I love the structure of the book, presenting the basic facts of each crime at the start and then following with the backstory, details of the crime day, investigation, suspects, trial and official state of the case. Enough detail is provided about each crime to really get you enthralled, and thinking about what happened and who was really guilty.Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable read and highly recommended for crime aficionados.

It was rather dull. Who cares about unsolved murders in El Salvador? I mean they are unsolved because they probably don't get investigated. I would have liked a more interesting list. Maybe some lesser known cases.

An intruiging page-turner
I was supposed to give this book to my dad but this one was a real page turner. Can't believe I read everything in one sitting. I figured I was going to read it for just a couple of min. but for some reason I couldn't put it down. I was particularly intrigued with the Crips story as well.

My opinion
Simply put . This is a book worth it's price. The first cases have more information than the later ones and there's some new information in the Shepard case that I had'nt read before. Some of the stories are quickly glossed over but I did'nt mind too much. All in all I enjoyed this book and do recommend it.

Murders Unsolved
This is a sad book. We read headlines but they can't really tell us why people do these things to each other. Very informative as to what happened though. I RECOMMEND

Great book, very interesting!
Mr. Riley delivers an interesting and well written book again. My only complaint is that there are several spelling errors in the book. It kind of drives you nuts to have to figure out what he is trying to say.

Nice but no cigar
First for the reviewer who thought that Marilyn Sheppard's rape kit had been test for DNA in 1954: The kit was tested for DNA about 50 years after being taken. The stories are interesting. How were the cases chosen? The chapters are too short and dumbed down; they should be longer and more informative.. The book needs editing and proofreading; there are typos and misspellings. The book lacks listing of sources, proper index, and bibliography. The author should rewrite the book using the above suggestions.
