Works great, easy to install
I purchased a Blu-Ray drive from another company and had nothing but trouble with it. I returned it and purchased this Buffalo drive. What a difference! Within two minutes of opening the box, I was watching a movie! (I already had the latest version of the software downloaded from the web, and I didn't try to install anything from the enclosed disk.)I tried the drive on both my laptop and desktop with no problem at all. Note that it comes with two USB cables, with the second one available for extra power. I have not used the second cable. The main (thicker) cable powers the unit just fine. It's unfortunate that the USB cable is so short... BUT I really like the fact that it wraps snugly around the unit for storage, so I will accept the short cable in favor of the storage. (The thinner USB power cable stores under the unit. The thicker USB data cable wraps around the side of the unit, and there is a gripper piece on the plug itself that slides into a groove and keeps the cable in place.)Highly recommended!

Great BluRay player
I got this to watch blurays on my PC. Most players didn't come with software, this one did. I have windows 11 and was a little worried about some of the reviews and the software, but in questions they said it would work with 11 and it does. I've watched several videos on it and it works fine. Some said it was load motor - the only time I heard it was when I was loading software and it was no loader than the optical drive that came with the PC. (or any optical drive I've had in the past) but when playing videos it very quiet. The problem with the machine, which I knew about when I got it - is the short cables - great for laptop, no so for desktop - but can be worked around.

Short Cable, Excellent Device
This device did /exactly/ what I wanted it to do: play the BD movies I had ordered so I could verify that they defect-free.And it very likely does everything else it claims to do as well.As others have noted, the cables are quite short and I only needed one of them to play BD discs on, although other functions may indeed require the second. On the plus side, the cables are restrained when not in use and so do not get in the way.The disk had the complete CyberLink 12 suite on it. Because each product is installed in a directory which includes the version in its name, the suite will not replace any existing version (such as PowerDVD 14) that may exist. However, the free versions of PowerDVD do not do Blu-Ray, so be prepared to upgrade or find something else. PowerDVD 18 Ultra definitely plays BD discs.

Works well, cabling could be better.
The drive came with a USB 2.0 cable with a second (power-only) USB cable attached. Removing the cable from the side reveals a full-sized USB 3.0 Micro port, which should both provide more power to the drive and increase its speed to the computer. While the cable is designed to be compact, it sacrifices speed and ease of connecting to the computer as the USB leads are so short (about 6" [15cm]).Once connected, the device works on Mac, Windows, and Linux. You may want to use a longer USB 3 to USB 3 Micro cable though, but save the included cable for in case of emergency.

Malware!!!!
This product sucks; I just don't see how so many people rated it highly.1) Upon install, the disk attempted to load a .sys file that is a recognized kernel malware app. Fortunately it was blocked by my antimalware tools2) Each time I went to play a disk, it pops up an update box. Click that, and it pops up a dialog with a BIG update "offer" along with a very small update link.3) The install disk installs a bunch of bloatware.4) Because I hadn't installed the .SYS file (I'm guessing) I was never able to play a bluray disk.

Excellent Blu Ray drive for the cash
This thing is great! Plug it in and go as Windows 7 and up recognises it automatically. It can really take a beating against time too (I have left it going for 12+ hours a few times) and still perform good. Plays store bought Blu Ray discs flawlessly. It burns BD-R discs and BD-R DL discs with ease. You can use it with popular programs like Nero Burning Rom, IMG burn, and Convert X to DVD. It also burns DVD-+R and DVD-+R DL discs. You must have 2 USB ports available for it to work. I like this drive so much that I just bought another one!(April 2018)

You'll need extra software to play blue-ray discs
I have not tested all the features. I got it to play both DVD and Blue-ray disc movies, which it does beautifully. Tech support is also great--telephone, a live person. But note: the old software in the box will not play blue-ray discs. VLC would also not open the blue-rays. I purchased, separately, Cyberlink Power DVD 20, and it does a beautiful job. Highly recommended drive, and the Cyberlink did the job very well indeed.

noisy, invasive of privacy, buggy
Thia review is for "Buffalo MediaStation 6x Portable BDXL Blu-Ray Writer with M-DISC Support (BRXL-PT6U2VB),Black ".Opened the box it comes with a mini CD to install a software that takes 20 min to install (I only picked the movie player and the writer for Blueray), I didn't get all the bloatware that comes with the CD, first thing you notice is very loud to the point that you won't enjoy a movie with that noise, second the Movies never played for one simple reason: it requires you to give them your personal information like email and name, I skipped that step and in exchange the movies won't play, every time you try to do anything will take you to their ads full website, requiring again your information, the software crashed several times in the 30 minutes I tried to play a movie (I tried several movies), the software has banners to "remind you" 100% of the time to buy an advanced version of the software, I unplugged it, put it back in the box and sent it back.
