Beautiful, Informative Book
Very easy-to-follow book with lots of useful information. Author gets right to the point. Every step of the process includes photographs. Beautiful gallery of prints at the end of the book. Thin, lightweight book that's easy to take to class.

A nice little primer on lino cut and printmaking
I was really looking forward to reading this book sitting on my wish list for several months. Prior to reading I only carved two speedy carve blocks, and was not satisfied with the results. I had hoped for more techniques on carving in on lino and other softer surfaces (speedy carve, etc). For example, how to use cross-hatching for shadows, how very small lines can be used to be shadowing and how to deal with negative space. For those carving speedy carve and softer materials, there are particular technical issues that weren't covered here. This book is a good primer for the beginner in linoleum carving and basic printmaking. One thing to note, the book format is smaller than usual with fewer pages than the typical art/crafting book (which is usually around 120 pages) especially at this price. But for a beginner, this might be perfect for what you're looking for...I really liked the gallery in the back of the book showing other folks work where I learned how other artists are treating certain composition issues, shadowing, and choosing what to do with negative space.A good primer if you are just getting started.

Great Basic Instruction
This is a great little book on block printing covering all the basics including safety, tools, types of blocks, inks, and paper. It is a book I would categorize as a survey that touches on all of the important aspects of the process. If you want more detailed, historically-focused, or in-depth instruction in relief printmaking then this might not be your book. But, this book really covers the basics well and includes information that I haven't seen elsewhere and does so with both words and pictures. If I were to teach a weekend course in beginning block printing I would include this book on the list of materials as a great reference.

Book is good for beginners
Purchase was to have a reference book on reduction Lino cuts. It was informative but other than the orginal read I have not referenced it again. I would give it 2 1/2 out of 5. However for someone who had never done any Lino cuttting its a good starter info book. It does address more for the beginner .

What amazing illustrative wood cuts!
This artist has a great feel for the line and movement in the woodcuts presented. It was not too technical and not too simplistic. The illustrations were wonderful and very helpful in discovering that I MAY hae found a genre that is going to take a lot of time to learn.

Great text on Block Printing
Okay, I brought this book out of protest. I was getting tired of people wanting me to sign up for a class to learn how to carve a stamp. One sign up was for $65. I went to Amazon and found this book. It arrived and it was excellent for walking me through the process and has great pictures of what to do. It was way less than an online class and I am able to refer to it at my leisure. I say well done Sandy Allison. I wish more books are written in a "teach yourself" manner.

Excellent step-by-step instructions and print gallery
Very helpful for a beginning printmaker who wants detailed instructions with a clear photo of every step. Covers both linocut and woodcut, with useful info on on registration for multi-color prints. I bought the book because of the print gallery, and was not disappointed. I gave the book five stars because what it covers, it does very well. It is focused more on the mechanics of printmaking than the artistic aspects of printmaking. It was a nice complement to Learning Linocut by Susan Yeates and The Encyclopedia of Printmaking by Judy Martin. Both of these books had more emphasis on the art side of things.

Really great step by step to lino cutting
Really great step by step to lino cutting, including those little mysteries such as alignment etc. I’ve got the kindle version and would consider getting the physical copy too. The formatting is fine for the paper white, but obviously can zoom in and see in colour on the iPad.

Even though the book was written a long time ago I still found it useful. I am a beginner at this craft. It has the basics you will need to know to start the hobby
