Excellent present for a 13 yr old interested in architecture. Describes how buildings have evolved according to materials, skills and technologies available to the the people of the time, along with those people's needs. Illustrated through famous historical and landmark buildings. Engagingly written, beautifully illustrated and interesting for an adult also but not of great practical use for a professional or architecture student, I suspect.
