The Ignatius Bible: Revised Standard Version, Second Catholic Edition Review: Must have bible - I hesitated for a few months to buy this bible because - do I really need another bible? I was in search of a portable Catholic Bible that I could see (I am blind as a bat) and was bigger than the 6 or 7 size font available. I settled on the GNT Catholic Bible which is a great bible, excellent font and cute pictures but it was too thick to carry. So I bit the bullet and went with this bible after noticing the number of pages was less than the "portable" GNT Catholic Bible. This Bible does not disappoint. The leather is nice, the font is clear and crisp - absolutely readable and I like the creamy colored paper. The paper is thicker than most bibles which is nice. It is very portable so I can bring it with me everywhere I go. I love it! Review: Excellent and beautiful Bible! - Allow me to start off by saying that I am not officially Catholic yet. My husband is, and I am currently going through the RCIA class to learn more about the Catholic faith. I come from a very Baptist background, later nondenominational, but have felt a pull towards Catholicism and a strong need to get back in touch with my faith. Our priest recommended this Bible to us, and I am very grateful that he did. I have to first comment on the cover, which is stunning. The gold print on the outside is a perfect touch and definitely not tacky, like I feel a lot of times gold is. I also have to admit that I like the gold on the outside edges of the pages, too; I'm not entirely sure why, but I suppose it stems from my childhood Bibles always having the gold on the page edges - oh well, personal preference, I suppose. :) My first impression on actually opening the Bible is definitely positive. I like that the pages are not stark white. The pages seem to be slightly yellow, which in my opinion makes it much easier to read. Also, each chapter has a title - love it. Many of my previous Bibles did not have that, and although it is not necessary, I feel it is a great touch. The language is also great. It is still beautiful, as they did not take away too much, but it is definitely easier for me, personally, to read. The font is perfect. Let me also mention that I do not have perfect eyesight. I am nearsighted. The font is not too small, nor is it too large. I can read smaller print just fine without glasses, but the font in this Bible is much easier to read and definitely easier on the eyes. However, that may not be the case for someone who is farsighted - I cannot speak for that person, though! Also, another thing that I enjoy about this Bible is the two bookmarks it has. Most Bibles only include one of those ribbons, but this one comes with two. Again, while this is not a necessity, it is a nice bonus! I can easily bounce back and forth if I need to. Finally, we get to the maps. Something that I have always loved about Bibles is the maps that they include. I think it is especially interesting to look at the maps and compare them to those areas today, not only to see the changes (if any), but also to get an idea of the way things once were. The maps included in this Bible are beautiful. They are also well marked so that you know what period in the Bible they represent, and what paths were used by whom. All in all, it is a great inclusion and I do feel that it is important to have in any Bible! So, ultimately, I think that this is a great version to have, even if you are not Catholic or if you are interested in the Catholic faith. I personally have more than one version, and as I am rediscovering my own faith, I think it will come in handy to see the differences between versions! I absolutely recommend this.

Ignatius Bible - Kindle Edition: a most convenient way for me to carry my Bible wherever I go.
I’ve been a devoted daily reader of the Bible for many decades. I’ve always wanted to carry a Bible with me when away from home, but often found it difficult to do so. Recently, I decided to give an ebook edition of the Bible a try. It didn’t take long for me to find one that suits my needs perfectly: The Ignatius Bible, Kindle Edition. This ebook edition of the Bible has everything I want. It is the Revised Standard Version – Second Catholic Edition (RSV-CE2) that includes the Deuterocanonical books of the Old Testament (those books are recognized as canonical by the Catholic Church.) The language is glorious to read. The RSV-CE2 is rendered in modern English throughout. (The residual archaic English found in the original RSV has been modernized.) The language is easy to understand, but it retains much of the majestic “flavor” and “feel” of the ancient King James Version upon which it is based. There are plenty of helps available in the form of explanatory notes, maps, and cross-references, all conveniently located together at the back of the book, but easily accessible by asterisks and other markings within the biblical text. That allows me to read passages without distraction or interruption, unless I need to refer to the notes. The Ignatius Bible RSV-CE2 Kindle Edition is very easy to navigate. With a couple mouse clicks or touches of my device’s screen, I can access a very good drop-down menu that takes me immediately to any book and chapter that I choose. The print is very easy on my eyes. I can adjust font size and style in the same manner as other Kindle books. Of course, I can read my Bible on any Kindle-compatible device, including my laptop PC, Android tablets, and my smartphone. I am very pleased with my new Ignatius Bible RSV-CE2 Kindle Edition. It's a most convenient way for me to carry my Bible wherever I go. Highly recommended.

I own many Bibles, and this is easily one of the best in my collection now. I own a couple Cambridge Bibles that are only a bit nicer quality than this and they cost me 2-3x more! The paper quality is very nice and the leather is soft and flexible. In addition, the gold page gilding looks great and I like having 2 ribbons. The Bible was printed in the USA which surprised me for the low price range. This Bible is not super portable in size, but it's not as heavy as I expected either. It makes an excellent study & prayer Bible and it's not filled with too much commentary or notes. The RSV-CE 2nd Ed translation is excellent. Very readable, not as politically correct like the NRSV. It re-affirms Catholic dogmas/beliefs and makes excellent textual clarifications on many key verses in the scriptures (Luke 1:28, Isaiah 7:14, etc). You also get all of the Catholic books and traditional ordering of the books and Psalms and any removed chapters have been included (ex: chapters from Book of Daniel). The only thing I wish this Bible had would be a section or pages that included common prayers. This would have been nice for devotional reasons, but it's not the end of the world. I would recommend that every reader learn "Lectio Divina" and you will love this Bible for sure. Overall, I would highly recommend this Bible. It's simple and no frills. The full Catholic OT & NT with a brief introduction and minimal commentary/notes throughout so you can really focus on the scriptures. It is really as good as it gets if you just want a pure Catholic Bible!

Stunning leather bible in every respect and a worthy investment in my faith journey. The leather is very high quality, the pages bound very well with no spine crunching or creating. The paper is a light buttery yellow and the text readable (although took getting used to admittedly, as I wasn’t so familiar with this typeface) The size is ideal, not to big or small, and the gold gilding and two ribbons is a welcome bonus. I am surprised with how much readable and not too small a text the makers fitted into a bible that’s pages are also quite thick…it almost defeats logic or at least my usual understanding of what the payoffs are with bible sizes and page thickness, so a real gem. It’s easily one of the most special bibles I’ve owned, or even held, and am most sincerely impressed. But as with any Bible, beautiful or not, the most important factor is reading it - and I must say, it’s splendour is an encouragement! Highly recommended.
