True Grit

I saw "True Grit" in the theater when it came out in the late 60s, and loved it - it is still one of my favorite movies. I remember buying this LP back then, and loving it also. The music is beautiful (as was most of Bernstein's music), and at the time it didn't seem as cheesy as it surely will today. I can certainly understand why someone buying this album today might not readily appreciate the beautiful music underneath all of the 60s "pop-fusion" elements of orchestra, sitars, organs, tinny electric guitars, harpsichord, and big-bandish rhythm section. And yes, I can certainly understand why someone today, or then, expecting a faithful recording of the actual soundtrack or score of this film would be disappointed. With that said, I am still today moved by the beautiful music in this album and am quite pleasantly surprised to see that a remastered edition of it has appeared on CD. Yep, this is probably one of those love-it-or-hate-it kinda CDs. I one of those who love it!

I have loved the True Grit Soundtrack for years. Had it on Vinyl, but never could find it on CD until now. The left-out tracks, and extra were interesting to hear and learn about too, although I can see why the alternate song and lyrics were dropped. I thoroughly enjoy being able to hear the main soundtrack again.

"True Grit" OST- one of my main albums in the late '60's, do I remember the modern arrangements and Sitar- NO! I have to thank amazon.com digital library for that revelation.

Elmer Bernstein's score is one of his best, and that's high praise indeed, when you think of all his other great scores for westerns. Even Glen Campbell"s rendition of the title song is very moving.

I've always enjoyed that song and glen campbell does it really well. I'm glad to finally have my own copy of the song(the movie with John wayne is great too.

BEAUTIFUL SCORE EXCELLENT CD FULL SCORE OF THIS FILM HAS BEEN LONG OVERDUE

Awesome score from one of the greatest western films ever, that set the scene for John Wayne's only Oscar winning performance. One of Bernsteins best.

Colonna sonora del film rivisitata dall'autore in chiave pop, disco raro ed eccezionale, da avere nella propria collezione. Devo fare i miei complimenti al venditore, London Vinyl, il disco è arrivato nei tempi previsti, confezione molto accurata, copia in condizioni decisamente superiori a quanto descritto. Consiglio vivamente questo negozio a chi cerchi dischi usati e nello stesso tempo serietà da parte di chi li vende.

I don't know what cd was inside the recording which Mr Douglas bought, but it certainly wasn't the same one I bought. I already had the LP originally issued way back in the dim past- guitars, sitars, big band sound etc, and also bought the Tadlow recording on cd. This new cd is tremendous - every orchestral note of the score - not an electric guitar to be heard anywhere. Just listen to Bald Mountain and be transported. Note also the comprehensive list of the orchestral players including Arnold Koblenz and Mitchell Lurie , who also played on Hawaii. Incidentally, Pearl Kauffman, who plays piano on the soundtrack was Elmer's first wife and who has just published the new book The Magnificent Elmer - available from Amazon. This is an absolutely wonderful soundtrack, at last. The bonus tracks include an interesting performance of the main title song, with Elmer B as soloist.
