The Oath - DVD

Underrated movie!!!! Must watch in 2026!

I really wanted to watch a Thanksgiving movie on the holiday! This did not disappoint! Funny, ridiculous, a little scary, but when are people not? Worth the watch!

Just getting to watching this in 2023, but the story is still relevant. I love Ike Barinholtz, and although this movie is labeled a comedy, I think this is the most dramatic acting I've seen from him. He should do more! And loved that his brother played his brother! Disturbing yet realistic story, which in itself is disturbing. I'd recommend this even to the people I get in political arguments with!

The situation went past anything that resembles a dramedy. Good acting and it is a good idea for a story, but the escalation of violence made it too real for the level of comedy and the end resolve to balance it out. I'm sure his next film will be better, as it was a decent attempt and he made bold choices in his writing and I like a writer that's willing to take risks and create something a little different. Tiffany Haddish is a really good actress. Her timing and delivery were what grounded the comedic elements. In other hands it may have all fallen flat. She has a great future ahead of her.

This is by far one of the worst movies I have watched in over a decade. This was advertised as a comedy and the entire time I watched this horrendous story plot unfold not once did I even come close to remotely laughing. The entire time I was stressed and angered at the absolutely ridiculous story plot. The way the story even came to its conclusion is nothing but illogical and angered me even more. Absolutely horrible writing. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME RENTING OR BUYING THIS MOVIE. 100% GARBAGE!

This was more of a drama than a comedy or a thriller. There were some very funny lines, but overall this felt like a very serious and sincere observation of the extremes both sides of the US political system can reach and what motivates individuals to those extremes. I could connect and relate to both sides depicted. Tiffany Haddish isn't the master of nuance, but portrays the perspective that's needed in this film so perfectly BECAUSE she is so direct in her dialogue delivery. This film really made me see the middle ground in what has been a truly polarizing topic for this nation recently. Having said that, I think the individual motivations of the Oath takers was more tangible than that of the non-Oath takers. I think being able to articulate the non-Oath takers motivation a little more explicitly would have made a more balanced portrayal of both sides. I don't know if that was the purpose of the film though, so...... Overall, I would recommend this movie. It makes me think for a bit on both perspectives, and the casting or writing allows me to relate to both sides.

Definetly politically charged topic. I thought the government agents were a little over the top. In fact, I thought the whole story line was over the top. I would not say this was a comedy. If it was it was dark. Casting was off. The chemistry between the two leads did not work. Good actors but just didn't believe they would have been a couple.
