Does anyone know how this compares with borax for laundry?

Borax will whiten and deodorize while washing soda softens water, adding washing soda means you can use less detergent. A 50/50 mix of Borax and washing soda is excellent for whites in warm/hot water, it's not recommended for washing in cold water. You can also use the mix in your dishwasher, you can buy both at Wal Mart for about 1/3 the price of Amazon.

Why is this so expensive? It is less than $4 at Walmart!

It's exactly the same price as Wal-Mart charges. I understand you asked this 8 years ago, but come on! You CANNOT be that dense, can you?!

Not only are you buying it from a 3rd party vendor, you're getting it delivered RIGHT TO YOUR DOORSTEP! The short answer is that you pay more for convenience. That's just the straight up facts.

I rarely buy anything at Walmart. They have a few items I can't buy elsewhere, but if I can find it online, or at a store that offers fuel rewards (Safeway, Fred Meyer), then I will do whatever I can to avoid Walmart. That store gives me the worst anxiety attacks, it smells, and there's always a bunch of a-hole children running around unsupervised or screaming their lungs out.

Also, you can literally buy any and all cleaning products & household products from stores like Safeway & Fred Meyer for CHEAPER than Walmart when you add their e-coupons & basket savings. On top of that, you get those handy fuel rewards.

I'll never understand why anyone would compare something to Walmart. Stop bitching about it and just keep going to Walmart.

I bet you're one of *those* customers who calls the 800 numbers any chance they get in an attempt to berate the employees and weasel some $5 coupon out of the store manager.

Why is this 2x more expensive here than at retailers that deliver? $4/box @ wal_mart

is it good for pools

I didnt use the washing soda, but I did use a cheap generic brand of baking soda like you use for baking for regulating the Ph balance of our 22'x42" above ground pool. It worked just as well as the product that they sell for swim pools that contains sodium bicarbonate, and it's so much cheaper. I hope this information may help someone else. As for how much to add, I just googled to find out how much was suggested to start with, then kept doing tests on our water.
