Box opened and torn
The box for the knife had been torn open and crudely taped back. Normally I’d send it back but was a gift and didn’t have time.Be nice to get a clean product!

Good Sailor's Knife - with a few caveats
I had a chance recently to see and use this knife (with an option to buy), and passed - and here's why. First, for the 'pros', this knife is very well made for a 'service knife'. The rivets are solid and secure, the clearances are 'as-expected' for a smooth open and close, and each blade is 'well-made' for what it is meant to be or do. The down-sides are, however, enough of a detractor that I passed on buying this knife for my own use, and here's why:The primary cutting blade is a 'straight blade' (sheep's foot style) and has no serrations. As most who have ever sailed would know, rope cuts 10x easier using a serrated blade, than it does with a 'sharp standard blade'. I don't care if you have a cutthroat razor, I'll cut through 1-inch manila rope 10x faster with a serrated bread knife, than you will, with that razor...rope takes 'sawing' more than 'slicing' to cut effectively. Secondly, for a true 'sailing' knife, you need a way to open frozen shackles...and there is no shackle key on this knife. Yes, you can stick the marlin spike in the end hole of SOME shackles and open them...but in most sailing, if you are using 1/2" to 1" shackles, many of the older ones do not have this end-hole on the bolt...so find some pliers or a shackle key...or don't open it..your choice. This knife is, as described, an 'Army Knife', not a true 'sailor's knife'...and keeping this in mind will make you look twice at that $58 pricetag...especially when you can get a Myerchin for $75 that has a serrated blade, shackle key, marlin spike and some even have the can-opener (not sure what that's all about...on a sailing knife...but oh well)...I'm sure that the manufacturer could build a good sailor's knife...but this isn't it...keep looking.
