Developing Glazes Paperback – January 31, 2013

I have never mixed my own glaze before, but I recently realized how much cheaper it might be for me if I did. I haven't yet sat down and read this book for cover to cover yet, but from what I have read, I think this is really going to help me get started. A lot of the book is charts of test tiles with corresponding recipes that show you how the different chemicals and proportions affect glaze colors which is exactly what I was looking for. I fire at cone 5 and found plenty of recipes that will be suitable for me to try.

This is my favourite book about developing your own glazes from those that I purchased before. This book is written by a prominent ceramic artist for potters who want to experiment with glaze in their work. The book covers all the essentials for creating and testing your recipes, recording your test results, also about mixing glazes and finding the correct firing temperature. And also very helpful how-to images.Comprehensive glaze recipes with pictures are in the last chapter.I love this book!Ksenia,St. Petersburg,Russia

Really good reference as far as it goes, which is not cone 10! I work in high fire and the recipes in this book only go to cone 9. I guess I could experiment with use of more silica or something more refractory, but still, this book got such big hype I thought it would be good to go...not.

Within the pottery field the best way to achieving art work finishes is through experience. Nevertheless, some strange thermodynamic issues can only be reached by studying other potters and scientists results: extreme sensitivity to heat, to kiln atmosphere, to glaze Ph or to natural / industrial materials are some examples of how this book can help us with.

Well laid out and easy to understand. A lot of work and research went into this - all to make it easier for someone like myself to get up and running quickly. Love it!

Page 104 has 5 recipes missin g compared to the images on page 105. Other than that , it is excellent.

This is my go-to book for developing my own glazes: it is clear, and the method used is top-notch. While there are glaze recipes in this book, the heart of it is about developing one's own glazes. I've owned this book for nearly a year, and still pull it out routinely. If you're interested in developing your own glazes from scratch, this is the only book you need.

This is a fabulous book. I have made more than a hundred recipes from this. I have also followed the authors instructions to make even more blends of different recipes. It is clearly written, could be used by complete beginners or those with more experience. Absolutely brilliant, my favourite glaze book by a mile.

I was highly recommend this book. So I got it, haven’t read the entire book yet but so far it’s very easy to understand as it explains things in detail. From the chemical formulas to the end outcome.The recipes are easy to follow.
