Clapton: The Ultimate Illustrated History
A much detailed photographic history of one of the most influential guitarists of all time. Some photos have been seen but forgotten by time and others have not been seen at all (well maybe not in the US). Nicely covered from every facet of his career through Yardbirds, Cream, Blind Faith and his solo years. A peek at some of the guitars he has played and collected through the years. (Some as many know have been auctioned off for the Crossroads Center) Chris Welch has done an amazing job of putting all this together-concert photos, ticket stubs, program books, various pictures on and off stage and an informative narrative of his career, from beginning to now. Some of the pictures shown I was present at those concerts, so it brought back some nice memories and for those of you who do buy the book and you were there at those various concerts, it might do the same for you. A must have for any Clapton fan, and for others who are curious a very good book, despite some factual errors printed through the book.

This is the ultimate book!
When i first opened the package and i saw the cover, i just said: "wow, this book is beautiful". the cover is so out of this world. so delicately done. you open the book and see a lot of pictures from shows, tickets, poster. Besides has a lot of history from Clapton, and quotes! it really shows you an intimate look on how backstage of Clapton were like!. Also you'll see pictures of shows, showing you a look of Clapton that you'll never imagine before!. Whoever is into Clapton, I sure recommend this book to!

Good but aseptic
This is a well written book. The illustrations are nice and the informations are interesting. The criticism I have is that the author dedicate the majority of the text to the first part of the career of Clapton. Another criticism, that applies even to the autobiography of Clapton, is that the text is aseptic and does not communicate the emotions that are intrinsic to the creative process.

Great photos, but problems with the facts and omissions.
I finally sat down last night to read the whole book. When i first purchased this book back in September, I just read the post Cream to Dominos section. This book did a great job covering the part of Clapton's career that he just glossed over in his autobiography. It does cover the meltdown of Blind Faith and of Eric in general at this point in his life. How Stigwood just threw him out there while working with the Bee Gees. After I read that part I just left it on the coffee table next to my Ultimate Fender book, but I couldn't sleep last night and picked up the book again.Yes there are some great photos and great stories in the book. That being said, there are some major errors in the book. It starts early with Mr. Welch stating Clapton's real last name is Clapp, after his grandparents. Another huge error was the age of Hendrix, given in the book as 25. Said 461 was the address of the studio not the house they stayed in. Also he claims that Blackie was made from six or seven guitars (while it was only three) and that Brownie, a stock strat, was also built in the same manner. These are just ones I can recall off the top of my head. These are just ones I can recall off the top of my headThen there are the omissions. I had hoped there would have been more candid shots, since the author is someone who has been hanging with Clapton since the first Cream rehearsal. Instead we are given mostly stock Clapton photos. No Jimi and Eric. No SRV and Eric. Someone like this could have asked Eric for some photos for this book. He skipped over the birth of his first daughter in the 80's. He skipped all of the great photos from the sale of the guitars and other gear for Crossroads.Over all it seems like the writer got the 1983 and said, "Ok I'm done here, are some pretty pretty pictures and liner notes from the records." The last chapter just felt rushed. How can you spend so much time on the first twenty years and then phone in the last twenty. Yes the photos are spectacular. In fact thanks to the fan club and the deluxe version Clapton, I have three of them hanging on my walls. Yes it makes a nice companion to Clapton: The Autobiography, but in the end I would have like to have seen more never before seen photos, more on the later years and better fact checking.

Perfektes Buch, tolle Bilder
