Cleans gently and effectively
Used this cleaner to clean up my 20+ year old Birkenstocks that had never been cleaned before. While I was at it, I used it to clean a couple of pairs of suede Toms also, plus some other leather and fabric shoes not pictured. This cleaned gently and effectively, removing dirt that I had not yet been able to get out using a wire suede brush and sandpaper from the suede. I followed the instructions to use only the foam and to apply it with a sponge. Then I followed that with a final fluffing with 80-grit sandpaper. My shoes look brand new! My only complaint is that it is hard to get the foam out of the bottle. When the bottle is full, there’s not enough air to get much foam. When the bottle is about half empty, it’s hard to squeeze the foam out. I wish it came in a more flexible bottle or that it had a pump-type dispenser.

EXCELLENT - Used for Many Years
Why did you pick this product vs others?:I've used this forever on Suede. This is absolutely the best! I put it in a spray bottle & dilute it with a little water. Spray it in, use a very soft toothbrush and then wipe off with a wet cloth. It had restored so many vintage suede items.

works ok but be patient and careful and follow the directions exactly
This suede cleaner has been around for a long time. It has a few quirks in actual usage. The first is that you have to agitate the solution to make it foam. A new bottle won't have enough clearance from the liquid to generate foam. So you need to pour a bit out to create a foam pathway through the top of the bottle. This is important because the unfoamed liquid is very thickly concentrated and will leave splotches if it gets on your shoes in an unfoamed state. The second quirk is that you have to squeeze the foam out of the top onto a clean sponge or cloth and then apply it to your shoes. You'll need to tilt the bottle at an angle to push the foam out onto the cloth. Be careful that the concentrated liquid doesn't escape. This can be a little awkward in practice, depending on the space you're using it in. Above a bathroom sink works, but a tile bathroom floor would work also. The third quirk is that it's not recommended for spot cleaning. The makers recommend applying an even amount to the entire shoe, even if you only wanted to clean one spot. This is because only applying it in one or two spots can create uneven patches. However, applying this to an entire shoe by carefully squeezing a modicum of foam out the top, applying it to the shoe, and repeating until the entire shoe is covered evenly is a bit tedious and you have to be patient and precise.I had bought this awhile back and decided to use it when I got a smudge on a pair of new suede chukkas. I first tried a shoe eraser to get the smudge out (recommended before attempting to use trhis cleaner), but had minimal results. I was a bit hesitant to pour some of the bottle out after opening it. I should have heeded the other reviewers who suggested this. Without enough room to make sufficient foam, a bunch of concentrated liquid got onto the cloth. When I applied it to the shoe, it quickly saturated and darkened the material. Oops! I then attempted to evenly cover the shoe, but I wasn't experienced eor patient enough to ensure only foam and not concentrated liquid got onto the cloth. When the cleaner dried it left uneven color splotches everywhere. Double oops!Defeated, I sulked for a few days, a morose shell of a man who failed at cleaning suede shoes. When my gumption returned, I attempted the process all over again. This time, I was much more careful about only getting foam on the cloth and applying just enough to cover, not enough to saturate. I coverted both shoes. brushed them with a nylon brush to even out the coverage, and let dry. They dried fairly quickly, in well under an hour, maybe half that. It seemed fairly even now. I then sprayed both shoes with Nikwax suede/nubuck rain.stain proofer (a recommended tip I read). this effectively weatherproofed the shoes. Then i brushed the shoes again. The final results did restore my shoes to near-spotless wearability. The manufacturer claims water resistance after use, which was no doubt fortified by the additional layer of Nikwax. The treatment dulled the knap a bit, and slightly stiffened the upper. They now have more of a waxed suede texture. I could try to raise the knap a bit with a brush, but these particular shoes aren't the hairy or rough out type suede, so I didn't bother. They looked good, perhaps a little darker then their original color which was a maple/light brown, but the difference wasn't super-significant -- especially considering I oversaturated the shoes during my first attempt and then had to go back and clean up my mistake. I kind of like the new texture, and there's plenty of flex in the toe. A more broken-in shoe would probably have more suppleness, but I'm not worried about them being too stiff as they should loosen with wear. This cleaner works, if you follow the sparse directions and are very careful. But it can be a PITA if you accidentally allow the concentrated liquid to get on your shoe or the cleaning cloth. I ended up using more of the bottle for just one pair of shoes than I would have liked, but this stuff is highly concentrated, so I still have a lot left. You could dilute it a bit with water and put it in a spray bottle as one reviewer suggested -- although that is more of a trial and error method, as there's no way to know how much to dilute the solution beforehand. I think next time, I'll forgo the old school cleaner, and use a more modern spray cleaner which comes out foamy without all the fuss. Be advised that no matter what cleaner you use, you will also need a good brush and a clean cloth to effect your restoration.

Gets Salt and Dirt Out Without Damaging Leather
Gets Salt and Dirt Out Without Damaging LeatherI used this cleaner on a pair of suede boots that had picked up salt stains from winter walking, and it did a great job of lifting the marks without leaving behind water rings or fading the color. The spray comes out evenly, and you don’t need to use a lot—just a light mist, a soft brush, and then letting the boots dry. It worked equally well on a leather belt that had gotten scuffed, taking off dirt and giving it a refreshed look without making it feel sticky or greasy afterward. One thing to keep in mind is that it doesn’t replace conditioning. After cleaning, especially with leather, you’ll still want to use a conditioner to keep it soft and prevent drying or cracking. The bottle is 8 oz, which is enough for several uses, but if you plan to treat lots of items regularly (shoes, jackets, bags), you may go through it quicker than expected.Bottom line: A reliable and effective cleaner that’s gentle on suede, leather, and fabric, making it a good staple for keeping shoes and accessories looking presentable.
