How Far You Have Come: Musings on Beauty and Courage (Morgan Harper Nichols Poetry Collection)

Morgan has become one of my favorite poetic authors this year. I first read her 'All Along You Were Blooming,' then picked up a copy of 'How Far You Have Come' after I loved the other so much.This volume is beautiful. It is a collection of place-based poetry interspersed with reflective narrative sections, and the whole book is filled with Morgan’s beautiful illustrations. As a native Californian, I especially loved reading the California section, but I also found myself dog-earing pages all throughout the book so I could revisit my favorite poems later on.Highly recommend, and while you’re at it, pick up 'All Along You Were Blooming' too. I liked that one even better, to the point that I wanted to buy an extra two copies so I could turn the pages into a collection of framed art prints for my walls. I still might do just that! =)

I have both the Morgan Harper Nichols books and I love both of them, but there is something in How Far You've Come that is very personal to me in many ways.I love how her art is enclosed in every story and all the stories she has shared from past experiences and struggles are encouraging. You may not be able to relate with one but you sure will in many others. She has a gift of turning all these experiences into deep realization as if all the things we see have deeper meaning to it. From the troughs and throughs to hills and valleys -- to even plains!Her mere description of every experience seemed like a vividly painted canvas and she helps you develop every stroke until you create a beautiful masterpiece that is also applicable to that experience you had in a season.I greatly recommend this book! A liesurely read for an afternoon coffee or a quiet getaway or if you just need a little encouragement to get you going.

Morgan’s beautiful poetry met me at a particularly difficult time as I found her poetry on Instagram and wept because I felt like the words were speaking directly to and for me and I purchased her latest book minutes later. This book is absolutely beautiful. I loved so many of the poems and I appreciated the anecdotes interspersed throughout telling of her personal journey as it felt so incredibly relatable. I recommend this book to anyone who might be feeling disconnected and broken-hearted because it gave me hope.

What a fantastic, beautifully illustrated and written book! I loved the way she relates to the little slave girl escaping the South. The story of being a young college student who feels alone really resonates with me as well. The illustrations are beautiful. MHM prose is executed perfectly. I’m trying to read a few pages at a time so I can savor it! There’s no reason to rush through something so profound, thoughtful and heartfelt.

I love this book so much. I reread it when I need extra encouragement.

Beautifully written and illustrated book. This is pretty enough to be on a coffee table or sit on an office desk to impress people but it longs to be read and appreciated and is worthy of your time and attention. The shorter poems are a fantastic introduction to poetry for younger kids and the lessons are great to ponder for all.

These wonderfully thought out and creative quotes and writings by Morgan Harper Nichols are simply beautiful. I gifted this book to a friend and have since also received one of her other books as a gift. They are a lovely addition to journaling as well as coffee table ornaments.

Just didn’t appeal to me. It’s very ‘inspirational quote’ type stuff.
