Janeway's Immunobiology 9th Edition

I have only just begun to read and take notes using this book, but from what I have read so far it is very comprehensive and has very detailed figures. I attend a prestigious pharmacy school and bought this to supplement course materials. I chose this particular book because it is the most recent edition, and because several of my professors had referenced earlier editions to help compose some of their lecture materials.

While this book is probably the most comprehensive immunology textbook in the field, it is overwhelmed with detail--so much so that the "big picture" becomes obscure. Whenever a pathway is presented, the authors list the names of nearly all the intermediate proteins/enzymes involved, even if their functions are of little relevance OR are currently unknown. For many students, these details are irrelevant and end up confusing them more than enriching their understanding of the material; if, for some reason, a particular reader seeks additional detail on a particular topic, they can easily obtain the details by reading the references that are cited at the end of the chapter. Additionally, the review questions at the end of each chapter are very simplistic (although this is not a huge factor in my evaluation).

Great book in the epic time. Thank you, the authors. Recommend this book to anyone who is interested in immunology .

Good book

It works well on my online version. I use it through kindle.

The content in this book is awesome. No complaints there however this comes as an unbound book that you need to put into a binder. All 900 pages. The pages tear really easily (my cat stepped on one and it ripped) and so you really have to baby the pages to keep them intact. Also, it did not come with a CD so I'm unsure of how to access the videos/movies that are referenced throughout or if this is even possible. That is disappointing too. Would give 2.5 stars because of the usability of this.

Interesting subject and great leader in the field of immunology.

I bought this for my second year module in cellular pathology, due to the price and lack of weight I’d recommend getting the kindle version; being able to load it up on a tablet or phone without the weight is honestly life saving (or should I say back saving) and the price is much better for university students. I would say however this a book only for university students or perhaps sixth formers. The book is very content heavy and would likely prove a bit much for younger audiences or those who don’t have an extensive background in biology.

The named website referenced for additional support in the book was closed down in 2018. Ive had the same frustration of other texts that give self-test sections where you cant look up the answers other than by re-reading the entire section(s). Books like this need to be hardback, as paperback covers keep flipped upwards. Its expected for the reader to memorise all the symbols inside the front cover for diagrams. More labels could make some diagrams easier to understand but after reading the first section ive got accustomed to knowing them better. Clearly written with easy to follow text and a nice flow from one process to the next. Im looking forward to reading the rest of the book as its as enjoyable as stryer and lodish for those students who know.

The book is excellently written and a must read for a greater understanding of immunology. The biggest frustration was that despite several attempts I have not managed to access the online material and the website is very confusing for people like me who are neither students nor university faculty but doctors.I cannot access any videos and the publishers will not help.So think carefully enforce buying. Possibly buy another book where you can access all materials that can further your understanding, unless the publishers rectify the issue.At one point I wanted to return the book back to amazon with the complaint, but it is not part of my nature to return a book once I have started to read it.I hope this feedback will get to the author and publishers and help many others

It's a perfect book for immunology. It is very helpful you have prepare for CSIR exam with this book. Explanations are very simple.
