Great book for beginners
This is a really good book for beginners, it gives the detail and how to build up a picture from Scratch. I have found it very handy. I do recommend it

40 pages long - seriously?
My fault...I should have looked at the description in more detail. It states it is only 40 pages long so I should not really complain. When it arrived I thought there must be some mistake as it looked like a very thin magazine.Seems to me that if you want to buy an instructional book you would expect it to be longer and more comprehensive. That said, much of it is excellent - no I am being unfair - nearly all of it is excellent. I am just past the beginner stage and this book gave me lots of tips and techniques. What little there is in the way of instruction is superb.Baffled as to why there is a chapter on how to draw a cactus plant in an American desert. You know the ones, they look like vertical spikey sausages with more spikey sausagey bits coming out the side. I can imagine there must be only 3 people on the entire planet who would want instruction on such a subject. The section on composition and drawing clouds is superb - so is the section on water. The section on perspective however needs a rewrite as it doesnt help and frankly a bit rubbish. I have another book on this topic ( Perspective Made Easy) it is 203 pages long. Quite why the author thought he could describe perspective in a single short paragraph is strange. Not helped by the fact that the single paragraph on the subject at the bottom of page 16 confuses more than it explains.I would happily have given it 5 stars if there was more content but it is expensive for something you can flip through in 15 minutes. I would have liked a lot more instruction and contentWould I recommend you buy it? I would first see if you could borrow a copy - it wont take you long to read and certainly you wont need to refer to it again. No criticism of the Author, Publisher or Amazon - the description clearly states it is 40 pages long. I will check more carefully next time.

Really good and clear steps for learning
I love this book, the steps are clear and although the pictures do sometimes jump in level of detailing there's enough in the book to understand what the author did and you as a learner can follow through. The first few sketches I did following the instructions are already something I didn't think I could do before. I don't have all the pencils the book suggests could be used. I started with a single HB pencil and now use Derwent pencils and found it does make a little difference but the hb pencil was sufficient to learn and practice with.
