Renewable Sea Wool Sponge, Hand Cut, Large, Approx. 6-7"

I had switched from the synthetic loofah to a sponge style last year. The artificial sponge worked ok, but it was pretty rough and started to disintegrate into large chunks after 6 months. I wanted something more natural and environmental so I tried this sponge. It is the perfect size and it feels much softer and more luxurious than the artificial one I had. Plus it suds up a lot better. So far I'm impressed and depending on how it holds up I'll be replacing them in my other bathrooms.

I purchased 3 different sponges and this review will focus on the Neptune Natural Sea Wool Sponge. I bought this for bathing in the shower, so the first thing I did when it arrived was take it out of the packaging and rinse in a sink full of warm, clean water. There wasn’t anything to rinse out…no sand, sediment, sea creatures, etc. All in all, pretty much ready to use right out of the package. First impressions: WOW—it smells pretty clean…not as fresh as the LATHER sponge but a close second place. I’m sure a soak in vinegar or water with baking soda would resolve this issue. This sponge wasn’t the same X-Large size like the other 2 I bought. I’d call it a large. The INCREDIBLE SOFTNESS is what impressed me the most. I’d feel 100% confident using this on a newborn baby. My ONLY critique is that I also don’t like how it was cut, as there’s no way for it to lay flat. It’s an awkward shape…which won’t matter when bathing but good luck trying to arrange it in your bathroom to look pretty! I’d have to cut away 1/3 of the sponge to make it sit how I want it to. Of the 3 sea sponges I bought, this one was the softest, hands down. It was also the smallest and didn’t smell as fresh as the LATHER sponge. Price seemed perfect at $12.

The sponge is a little bit too rough for me. Is it possible for me to return it?and replace it with something softer?

The sponge was a good size and becomes very soft when soaked with water. It works very well to exfoliate skin on your face or any part of your body. Just an overall good sponge to hold liquid soap and wash yourself with. My wife has had it for a while and it has lost a couple small chunks but Spongebob (we named it) is still working great.

I've used natural sea sponges for years so I already know about the quality, appearance, feel/softness and how well they hold up to shower gels and usage. I've previously only bought my sponges in person when I find one I like but figuring I was placing an order anyway I'd add a new one to my cart. My current sponge is about 6-7" in length but getting old and torn. This "X-large" sponge was supposed to be at least 6" long. I got maybe 5" on a good day and it appears to be more overly manipulated and cut/ shaped to size instead of a fully natural product. Even the color isn't completely true to what truly natural sponges right off the sponge docks look like. It is sadly going back and I urge everyone to buy your sea sponges in person when you can see the actual size and shape of them, not something cut into a oval shape, bleached or dyed and shoved into a tight netting material for resale. The website description and sizing is either completely inaccurately or the seller just didnt verify what they are selling and just ship whatever to make money. Overall, not happy at all with this product so my hunt for a true natural sponge in its natural form and of a proper size will continue.

There is a bit of an unpleasant smell when you get them wet. Also, it loses any exfoliation property. It does feel wonderful on your skin though. Just does nothing for sloughing.

This thing is fabulous and super thick not too mention larger than expected!!... I did feel like I had a good bit of seawater in it the first few washes lol because my skin was itchy like I had been in the ocean after my first few showers.. I bought this thick one and the softer one with the soft small facial ones as well. I use them all interchangeably, but I use my sponges every day. Love them
