Functional. Attractive. Helpful customer service.
I have the Nexus 7 cellular, and the only issue is that the microphones were relocated, so the microphone cutout on this case is non-functioning. I knew that going in, however, thanks to quick and helpful customer service from Poetic. I don't plan to use the microphones very much, so for me, that was a non-issue. You also do not have access to the micro-SIM while it's in the case, but I can't imagine that being an issue for anyone; how often do you need to access that? There have been some rumors that the microphone port was shifted on the cellular version, and I can confirm that is NOT the case. Everything lines up perfectly (minus the mics and the micro-SIM). The cutout for the micro-USB port is large enough to accommodate a the Nexus-included micro-USB cable and several others I tried. Headphone jack is also contoured to fit even L-shaped plugs (the kind that sit flush against the body), though not in every orientation; you'll need to spin it a bit as there are a couple orientations where it does hit the case. Again, not an issue in my opinion. The case seems well made, with a soft "suede" liner. The Nexus snaps securely into place, but it's also easy to remove. And the case never obstructs on the screen. The retention system is very well designed. The magnetic cover works well, though a slightly stiffer "hinge"-section would be an improvement, as it's easy to misalign the cover a bit, though you can't misalign it so much as to expose the screen. With the relatively small width of the Nexus, a 3-panel section doesn't put it at a great angle when used as a "kickstand," but I think that's more of a function of the relatively tall profile of the Nexus. It's a nice and comfortable viewing angle that still allows reasonably comfortable typing if that's how you like to use this sort of case. The leather exterior is nice to hold and the red (the color I got) is a nice shade that's very attractive and bold. It's a true red that I think looks great.I'm also impressed with the rather rapid iterations that the company made (the cover now folds flat against the back, which I gather WAS an issue), and my experience with their customer service was positive. I'm rating it four-stars because it meets my expectations for a great product, but does not exceed them. It is not "flawless," which is what I think a five-star rating should be reserved for. But I'm very happy with the product and my dealings with poetic. If you are looking for a folio-style case, I think you'll be happy with this. Hopefully they offer a version in the future with the correct mic ports, as I imagine that will be an issue for some folks.

UPDATED: excellent case for the price! (excellent case period)
UPDATE: Amazon wont let me post a separate review for this case, even though i now purchased the 2013 Nexus 7 version, but here i go anyways. It's the best case i have used for a device. PERIOD. the price is great as well, but even independent of it, it is a great case. It looks gorgeous, fits very well, and the folding back mechanism works great with magnet. i have not had a single problem yet.about 4 weeks after purchasing this case, i received another new one in the mail, with a letter stating that they had updated the case to address complaints, and shipped existing buyers the new one for FREE. Now i never had any problems, and i never complained about the new Nexus 7 2013 cover, i thought it was damn near perfect. But i still got a free one no questions asked. That is above and beyond what reasonable expectations anyone could have of customer service. This is now the gold standard. Every seller from here on will be compared to this, and i've become a poetic slimline customer for life!Nexus 7 2012 version: the poetic slim line is a brilliant case, it is a $50 folio case hiding inside a $15 price point.Pros: Considerably lighter and well designed than others. Magnets hold the flap closed. Magnets don't interfere with the screen. fit is tight. Buttons are easily accesible. offers decent protection.Cons: Some of the edges seem to be fraying very early on, but it's not too bad, in fact it's remarkably low considering i've handled it quite roughly. The lower right edge of the case grips the bezel a little too tight, and creates a slight pressure on the screen, which causes discoloration that is so subtle you can only see it when the screen is black and in a dark room. But the pros outweigh the cons easily, and i highly recommend this case. Buy without a second thought!

Just as I expected
I purchased this case looking for something lightweight to protect from scratches. Before this, I was already using a rugged albeit large and heavy Seidio case. I realized that I am very careful with all of my electronic devices, and the bulky case created a poor experience with my tablet for lack of portability (it was difficult for me to hold it in one hand with the case on). This case is exactly what I was looking for!PROS:It completely protects the tablet from scratches.I can stand up the tablet in horizontal orientation.Automatically wakes/sleeps the tabletCONS:The power/volume buttons are difficult to get to. They should have added buttons to the case to push the tablet's buttons, but instead they just cut out holes for the buttons. The result is buttons that are less accessible to the touch.

As described
I will update this review to reflect my opinion after a few months of ownership. For now, it seems exactly as described. I am a little disappointed that there aren't as many color/design choices for the 1st generation Nexus 7 as the 2nd generation, but that's not a fault of the case itself. In the picture, the logo looks black in the picture (which annoyed me) but is actually silvery metallic/reflective. That's a plus! The cover material seems like it could get nicked and scratched up easily, but like it will protect the device just fine from the wear and tear I subject it to. Granted, the worst it gets is shoved in my purse and set on my desk. The edges of the front panel aren't really finished. I'm afraid they're going to start to fray.

I'm lovin it!
I absolutely love this case for what I use it for. I like how thin of a profile it has. Does not make my tablet feel bulky in my hands and it slip easily into pocket in my laptop bag or messenger bag. I love the sleek look of it and also the two tone color scheme. I have not used it as a stand as of yet, but I also did not purchase it with that intention in mind. I like it so much I bought a second one to have on hand when the original eventually needs replaced. Also bought one for my son's tablet.

Three months of awesome
I bought the case at the end of January. I was impressed with the colour, feel and overall design of the case until last week. I opened the case and noticed one of the magnets that is used to keep the cover shut was no longer in its housing. The whole section where the magnet should sit looks like it is coming away from the rest of the case. Right now, only one of the three magnets has stayed in place and sticky tape is currently holding part of the case together. It's disappointing as I really love the overall style and design of the case. I will look at replacing this case with a different case and hope for a longer lifespan!

Pretty good cover for a Nexus 7
Nobody seems to be able to produce anything as slimline as the Apple SmartCover for the iPad. This seems to be the best for the Nexus and is significantly better than others I've seen.Good price too, reasonable range of colours. Fits easily and well, everything accessible. Magnetic closure and an imitation of the on/off of the SmartCover. For all that it does add bulk but seems well made and a good option for protecting your shiny new device.

Absolutely love this case
Ordered it using free trial of amazon prime at 5pm, it arrived 9.30am the next day!As for the case I cant fault it. The red is a lovely colour, it fits my Nexus 7 perfectly and the hard back seems nice and protective. Its very slimline which is what I was looking for. Hardly adds any bulk or weight. The sleep/wake function works every time, and when folded back as a stand it works in both positions as long as on a fairly stable surface.Only minor issue as other people have mentioned is that the power & volume buttons are quite deep and sometimes hard to press.

Won't hold itself shut.
I have one of the earlier versions of this case in black which does it's job perfectly, however I ordered the 'final version' as it appeared more slimline than the earlier versions (and I fancied the red one). The final version arrived & it was a good bit slimmer than the previous case, and still appeared to be of the same quality. However, the magnetic front 'flap' would not hold shut when the Nexus 7 was in the case. The magnets only aligned & did their job when the case was empty, bit of a pain as I was hoping to keep my Nexus in the case from time to time. The sleep/wake function works, but as the cover won't hold shut, my screen is repeatedly awoken when it opens.I read another review that spoke of this problem, so though Poetic might deal with the issue & replace is for me...nope! I tried to select 'Replacement' from the return options, but was told "We only offer replacements if the return is the result of our error. We also are unable to replace any items sold by other sellers that are Fulfilled by Amazon, because these sellers' inventory is constantly changing. You're welcome to return the item to us for a refund."Is a faulty item not a 'result of their error'?Refund it is! I'll spend my money elsewhere then.

Love It
Brilliant case, I had a case for my nexus but it fell apart after about a month of using it. I found this one and ordered it, very glad I did, the case is brilliant. At the same time my husband ordered a very posh case for his nexus about double the price of this one. His came and it wasn't very good, he has since bought this case as well in black and he loves his as well.
