As part of the vinyl reissue series of all Placebo albums, we start with the first album "Placebo". This is a new mastering, 180 gram vinyl and presentation corresponds to the original LP release. The LP was pressed at optimum. Placebo is the eponymous debut studio album by English alternative rock band Placebo. It was released on 16 July 1996 by record label Hut. It is the only album recorded with drummer Robert Schultzberg before his departure from the group. The album was a commercial success in the UK, reaching number 5 in the UK Albums Chart. The also spawned five singles, including "Nancy Boy" and "36 Degrees". The album was remastered and reissued in 2006 for its tenth anniversary, including demos and a DVD featuring live performances and music videos from the album. Import LP pressing. 2015.

Altmusicforum.com Review - Placebo - Slow Burning then Blazing
I've had the album on heavy IPOD rotation lately...and the more I hear it, the more I like it... It took me quite a while to get used to this guy's voice...but now It's totally grown on me...FAIR WARNING: It's kind of Geddy Lee/Rush like (which might send some running). I think I saw somewhere where someone likened them to a Rush/Smashing Pumpkins hybrid-- there's definitely some truth in that...This album has so much going for it....smart lyrics, great guitars, great drums, hook laden, alternately slow burning/blazing melodies. The songs are allowed time to mature/blossom rather than follow the quick in/out pop structure...which gives them staying power. The song Lady of the Flowers got me started...wow, what an amazing song...but I've since come to especially like Bionic (Great Guitars/Great Energy!) and the very catchy/change-up pitch that is Hang on to Your IQ but the whole album is great...I've since snagged a couple other Placebo albums...and while there's some good stuff there...seems there's something very special about this, their first.Bonus: The album cover is one of my favorite all time!!!!

Another great placebo album
If you like any other placebo album you will feel right at home here. It is a bit heavier than later albums and does have a more alternative rock feel to it. It has great lyrics that make you think. Not all of the writing is perfect but it is a great first album by any standards. You can't pick a favorite song because there are so many great ones. The only tracks that I tend to skip by are "Bionic", "Lady of the flowers", and "Swallow". I can't say that they are bad songs but I haven't given them a fair try yet. Those songs are also the slower ones on the album. Some of the best on here are "Teenage angst", "36 degrees", "Nancy boy" , and "Bruise pristine".

Really happy for this reissue because this record is fairly uncommon.

4 stars for the music - minus 2 stars for bad remastering
I love Placebo, and even though their next album "Without You I'm Nothing" is better and more varied than this one, I love their debut. However, this remastering is another sad victim of The Loudness Wars. It's compressed to a brick-wall of LOUD LOUD LOUD. I bought the 10th anniversary Special Edition, which does have a nifty DVD of some early live performances, but hold onto your original copy of the album- cuz this sounds terrible. I have had to leave several reviews like this (Iron Maiden, AC/DC remasters being worst offenders) because I can't stand the way CDs are being remastered to today's "standards" - there is no loud without quiet, and a brick-wall of loud compressed music ultimately fatigues the ear, and makes an album that was once just fine, sound un-listenable and un-enjoyable.

Only for completists
Album is great- brilliant- as we all know. Rendering of Nancy boy is terrible......absolutely terrible. Awful awful.awful. so bad..... also it's in a gate fold sleeve that adds no value apart from wasting packaging- one wonders if it would have been better to spend the money on better production of the albums best known track.... The album itself is too good to send back but - on the same tip - almost unacceptable to keep. I kept it. Take my advice and dont order.

Ok. Good sound. A few decent tracks, others not that memorable.
Placebo produced a good sound at this point and one that I like. There are 2 or 3 decent songs on this album, but the songs are generally not consistently strong enough for me to give the album more the 3 stars. I wanted to like it more, but despite repeated listens, don't find some of the tracks memorable enough. It's ok, but not great.

Excellent music
I had it when it came out on tape and was enjoying listening to it on streaming but my CD stereo has superior sound and I like to own my music I listen to at home.

Placebo
Placebo, what can I say? if you're looking at this you'll probably have an idea of their style and music.Great music with very distinctive vocals. I got into them through a compilation album and have scooped up quite a few of their albums since.
