TacStar Tactical Railmount with Slimline Sidesaddle

This shell holder looks great, mounts easily and securely, and offers the ability to add an optic to your shotgun, BUT, the version I got hold the shells so tightly, you'd never be able to trust it during a rapid reload. I'm sending it back.Update 6-17-10. I decided to keep this shell carrier because I couldn't find anything similar that I liked. I ended up cutting each shell loop on my bandsaw to relieve the excessive grip on the shells. All stay put, even under pretty agressive use. The shells could be pryed out sideways if they were to get caught on something, but it takes quite a lot of force to make that happen. I may make a second mod by adhearing an elastic strip over the outside of each loop to ensure the shells can't be pryed out sideways, but I want to continue as is to see if adding the strip is really needed. It fits like a glove on mi mossberg 88. This is a great product it's nicely made and does not feel cheap at all. It's worth every penny makes my mossberg 88 look 10 times better.

The TacStar railmount and sidesaddle arrived with one screw cammed out. That was obvious upon visual inspection of the item. Rubbing the screw head with my finger revealed sharp raised metal points that were ready to scratch the finish on my shotgun. I removed the screw and filed the head to remove the sharp points. That left shiny spots around the cross opening but it's not visible when mounted so that's okay with me. Fitting the mount to my Mossberg Maverick 88 took five minutes from start to finish. The instructions were spot-on for mounting. The sidesaddle rings ranged from tight to 'Are you kidding me?'. I had to use both hands to insert and remove shells from the first two rings and it wasn't easy. The rest of the rings were tight but allowed insertion and removal with steady heavy pressure. I expected a snug fit but this is ridiculous. You can't depend on getting shells out of this device in a survival situation. Fixing the mold for the sidesaddle should be a simple fix for the manufacturer. I get that shells have to be snug because dropping them is unacceptable. But having a fit tight enough to require lube is another matter. Aside from the screw mishap and shell fittings, the mount is made of quality materials and fit my shotgun well. Perhaps prolonged use with shells will expand the sidesaddle rings. If so, this moves up to a four-star item.Pros- Solid materials and made in USA (according to packaging)- Fits Mossberg Maverick 88 and the 500 & 590 shotguns- Provides a rail for accessories- Mounting hardware included- Accurate and easy to follow instructionsCons- Poor quality control. Purchased this for a 590 Mossberg Shockwave. The items arrived on time in proper packaging. It installed and fit perfectly with all parts included. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. Noticed in previous reviews that the item - which appears to be made of aluminum, scratched the receivers when installed. Due to this, I lined mine with Gorilla tape prior to installation (yes- there is enough room) and it does not impede the fit. No scratches. 12 gauge plastic shells fit snugly, small cuts in the rubber liner (careful - once made, cannot be undone) relieve the effort needed to remove ammo from the shell holders.

I have a cheap Walmart clearance sale H&R 1871 that I purchased for about $179.99 on clearance and I ended up learning that it was virtually identical to the clones of the classic Remington 870. With that in mind I decided I would make it more tactical. So this was my first mod. Then came the slidable buttstock and pistol grip. The only thing I have had an issue getting on this shotgun in the pump, I purchased an aftermarket one that was suppose to be compatible but it's literally like a single mm to small. However, back to this product, its great, easy install. Also love how it has a riser on it so you can still see through down the barrel. Makes for a great mount for a red dot. However, for about what I paid for the shotgun, I was able to modify it into a tactical shotgun and its has thousands of rounds through it.

Fits the shotgun well, won't scratch your finish (not that it matters) if you're careful and have more finesse than a Neanderthal.I was a bit put off at first, as the box mine arrived in was marked as being for a Mossberg 590, when I ordered the Remington 870 model. But sure enough, it was the correct rail.Have yet to mount an optic but the pic rail sits essentially flush with the top of the receiver so I have no concerns with any optics being inaccurate, not like you're shooting sub-MOA with a pump shotgun anyway.The only real problem I have is with the retention of the shells in the saddle. To put a long story short, out of the box it holds them too well. Way too well. Now of course this will hold them securely should one be going over the river and through the woods, but you aren't exactly going to be doing speed reloads with this.To get the shells out, you've got to pull the brass with one hand, and push the business end of the shell with the thumb of the other.I am going to look into modifying the shell holder to make it a tad looser, or perhaps putting in inserts to make it easier to remove the shells, but this is all perhaps a bit too much work for the end user.

Fits my Mossberg Maverick 88 perfectly. Very easy to install. I read one review stating that it scratched someones shotgun while they were installing it so in order to prevent that from possibly happening to me, I simply lined the inside with duct tape and cut holes where necessary.

It's a great addittion to my maverick 88 , fits snug and no wobble . Only dinged 1 star because it scratched my shotgun during the installment.

Muy buena calidad ,queda estupendo sobre el arma ,yo la mía la compre seminueva con pocos tiros y modificada de culata y corredera por tanto tuve que modificar y recortar dos cartuchos porque al montar daba sobre estos e impedía está acción,imagino que con la corredera de serie no será preciso ,aún así está operación fue sencilla y quedó muy bien.

The saddle fit my rem 870 perfectly. Site mounted nicely. Holds the shells securely but not overly tight. Happy customer.

Easy, solid mountShell loops are very tight, light lube helps and lasts a while. Have to relube till it breaks in I suppose

Great alternative to the stock mounted shotgun elastic sleeve shell holders available. Also able to mount an EOtech no problem. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase this again should I ever buy another 870 Shotgun.

Quick easy install on my Norinco hp9. Feels solid in place. Just make sure you have enough clearance before you buy. Some fore ends extend past the receiver when cycling (pumping). Make sure it does not extend more then a centimeter back.

Looks great on my 870 Remington. Fast delivery and easy install.
