Do you know about CBT?
CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and blinded clinical studies have proven it to be as effective as medicine in treating Depression and Anxiety.At 18, after having excelled in high school as a basketball player and academically, right after high school graduation I began having panic attacks, seemingly out of the blue. After two or three times of being rushed to the doctor I was referred to a psychiatrist. He placed me on medicine for Depression and Anxiety. I was on them for about a year and a half, struggling to stay in college on the meds. After that I was okay and med free for about 7 years. Then I came down with depression again. I was on meds for 40 years the second time.At age 50, in 1999 I was praying and searching for something that would help me. I found a home based cassette tape program that was based on CBT. It also came with a workbook. I worked with this program for about 4 years. After finding this program, I also found out about Dr. Burns's book and began working with it also. I saw improvement all along the way and after about four years I was able to get back into the workforce. I was still on a very small amount of meds for Depression at this point, but a lot less than I had been on previously. Fast Forward to 2017 and I was able to go off of meds completely and have stayed off of them to date.People, including the medical community, label you "mentally ill". In reality what was wrong with me was an emotional illness. I grew up without the coping skills I needed to survive in a very competitive, at times cut throat, world. Being slapped with that label makes you think you are defective and after a while you give up hope of ever getting better because the darned psychiatrists want to keep you on meds. They leave it up to you as to how to get better. After 23 years I took control of whether I'd try new meds and what meds. The doc didn't like it but look at the results is all I can say. Med free and I hope to stay that way.For anyone suffering from Depression, Anxiety, or Panic Attacks, I'd look into CBT and Dr. David Burns.

Great Book!!
If anyone is having any type of mental trouble at all or if you have any type of addiction that you want to get over and stop that addiction. Then this book is a great way to help you start and maybe heal those mental troubles/problems or fight that addiction and win finally. I also have a great psychiatrist, and he suggested this book for me to order and read and do the pages that it asks u to write or fill out. I love it and already in the 1st day I had read a bunch of chapters and a lot of things that never made sense finally made sense and I had discovered a lot of ways to help me mentally heal from my childhood years where I was traumatized and I was also raped and molested by my uncle. Plus I have been in recovery from opioid addiction and I’ve been so worried about relapsing that I will stay away from everyone and not go anywhere or do anything and that hasn’t been healthy either at all for me mentally and also physically too.So this book has made me where I can get out and do things and I can mentally knowWhere I stand in this world and know how to fight and pick out the stuff that I know isn’t good to be around or get close to. I could go on for days just telling how this book has helped me. Plus my psychiatrist is great and he has helped me so much also.This book has just filled in all the blanksAnd answered many questions that wasn’t answered any other way. It is well worth the purchase and won’t hurt u to atleast give it a try. Great read and great for helping any type of problem out there that mentally is a problem pretty much.

Kind of saved my life
When I was in the psych ward my doctor gave me this book. There's nothing to do in there so i read the entire thing in about three days.Usually I'm the type of person where knowing stuff makes me miserable. That wasn't the case with this book. In three days I pretty much went from a lifetime of daily ideation to over two months now without any serious thoughts on the subject of ending things.I'm not some super happy person now or whatever, but I do see that as a real thing people can actually be. I realize some may not be able to imagine thinking about ending things everyday, multiple times, for as long as their memories had lasted; but I was the opposite, I thought I'd never go a day without thinking about it. Now it's been months.It didn't cure me or anything, it just helped me to realize that i need to work on how i treat myself. So I'm slowly becoming less and less depressed. I'm kind of a nevative person so this has been a real challenge.It may not work for you, but tgis book may have prolonged my life, it's at least helped me put a stop to wanting death. That's really impressive.

MUST-READ for anyone who ever had anxiety, depression, or any other issue (basically all humans)
This book has so much information in it. It has tons of actual exercises, which do help for anxiety and depression. If you do the exercises with a pencil, you will become a happier and healthy person.I can't believe how cheap this book is. I bought many more copies, and I've already given them to lots of friends.

Super- aber nicht mit dem Audible-Hörbuch kompatibel
Ich habe das Hörbuch auf Audible und bin inhaltlich einfach nur begeistert. WOW! Genau das, was ich gebraucht habe- eine Depression oder sonstige schlechte Gefühle werden einem einfach intellektuell ausgeredet- bzw. man erhält mehrere genaue Schritt-für-Schritt-Anleitungen (!!!), wie man sich schlechte Gefühle selbst ausredet. Was für ein Ansatz, für Brain-Nerds wie mich perfekt. Hätte ich echt nicht erwartet! Also von daher- Spitze!!! Da man leider bei Audible das Zusatzmaterial, -das essentiell ist!!!!!- nur als PDF erhält und man das dann ausdrucken muss, wollte ich das Buch in Papierform vorliegen haben. Leider ist diese Print-Version NICHT gleich wie die Version, die man als PDF erhält. Das Hörbuch ist eine neuere, überarbeitete Version. Klar haben beide Versionen miteinander zu tun, aber das Buch ist leider für das genaue Durcharbeiten des Hörbuchs nicht geeignet. Trotzdem- als Produkt an sich einfach jeden Cent wert! (Und das sage ich nicht nur so dahin...)

Amazing value
This book is packed with great ideas to prevent self defeating attitudes. It is time consuming but very very worthwhile.Do the exercises!!! You will fail if you don't they are absolutely worth it.
