5/12/24: the first one which I bought back in 2019 started to die on me. Since I liked it so much I ordered it again. This 2nd one has a stronger heating coil. I'm able to cook faster and at lower temperature settings than with the 1st unit. ... which makes it a better buy than the first one!Original review:I use this product often to heat up water and cook Ramen or spaghetti noodles. So far it's held up over the past several years and always gets the job done. Also easy to pack away when I'm done using it to free up counter space. Would buy again!

What an extraordinary little gadget! I admit it, I truly was afraid this was going to suck because it was so inexpensive, but I was wrong. This is a great little portable stove. I am a professional cook so I know a good cooking device when I see one. This is a great, powerful little helper in the kitchen. I will be taking it with me on a road trip soon , so I have given a good test run by cooking a variety of dishes and I was not disappointed. Cooking rice was required a bit more attention but it did a good job. Gosh I am sounding a lot like a commercial lol maybe they should pay me lol!

I've had this hotplate two months now and do all my cooking on it. It's well built and large; it heats up quickly and gets hot enough to do any job; the wiring seems to be heavy duty and resiliant-so far, at least. Finding a good hot plate that heats up well, is structually sound, stands up to use, and is reasonably priced is extremely difficult to find either in stores or online; I'm sticking with this one and will replace it when needed.This hotplate lasted 6 months, which is reasonable since I do all my cooking on it. I ordered another one and they sent the same model but it has changed. The element is one turn smaller and it does not get as hot as the original one, so if you have a large frying pan on the element it takes much longer to cook. It's too bad that they downgraded this product since it was the best I've had.

The media could not be loaded.  PROS:- very light- small and easy to transport- easy to store- heats up in 2-3 minutes- low price- very useful if you want to avoid too much smoke / smell in the house- can take a 12 inch skillet without it sliding offCONS:- limited heat (30-35 minutes for a pack of bacon - 2 and a half "rounds" in the skillet)- doesn't heat a larger skillet equally- feels a little flimsy and cheap

I needed a way to cook while my kitchen was being remodeled. My project took about 6 weeks and I used this burner daily to cook various meals from eggs to artichokes. It worked better than I expected after reading the mixed reviews it got. I set it up on a piece of plywood on my laundry room counter and connected it to a power strip. This allowed me to pull the unit forward for cooking and push it back when not in use while protecting my counter from the heat and to shut off the power strip when the unit was not in use. This solved the problem of the unit needing to be unplugged when not in use. Over all I liked the unit very much and will continue to use it for my non-induction pressure cooker and other special pots that will not work on my new induction cooktop.

I bought this for using in my work room to melt oils and butters for making cosmetics, soaps, etc. Even on the lowest setting, this thing heats up super quick. I can only turn it on for about 20 seconds and then off again, or it will get too hot. The coils get so hot, they start smoking and stink almost right away. Hopefully, it's just residual factory residue and not a defective item. My husband is very leary about it because these items are such fire hazards, but I don't leave it plugged in after I'm done with it. It was a good price so I wasn't expecting too much out of it. I've used it a few times now and it works for what I need it for. I just wish the lowest heat setting was a little lower.Edit 8/16 - I had the unit in its box and dropped it accidently. Ended up with quite a large dent on the side - the metal is very thin and dents easily. Now the front part is seperating at the seam. I'm going to try to bend the metal back to its original shape because I don't think it's safe to use with a gap into the inside of the unit.

Like others who have written reviews, I purchased this primarily for lighting natural coconut hookah charcoal (e.g., Coconara). For the $14 I paid for this, I am very pleased with the product. It heats up quickly, and gets hot enough that it doesn't take ages for the coals to light. It also cools down fairly quickly too. It's not an expensive item, so if you are looking for a heavy build quality, look elsewhere. But if you need something inexpensive, it's difficult to imagine anything is going to work *better* than this.I will probably use it to boil water or keep something warm in the kitchen if I'm cooking a big enough meal that I run out of burners on my gas range. I can't imagine it won't perform adequately for the light cooking tasks I would be throwing at it. If you need something for doing heavy-duty cooking, this isn't the gadget for you, but you probably already knew that.

Tried one from canadian tire that cost more and it did not turn off. Returned it

I initially bought Salton's, which I had to return twice as it had issues with coils, one had uneven coils and the other one's coil never got hot enough.I bought this Brentwood's one as a replacement and very happy with it.It has no problem so far and hot in no time. I recommend this.

Arrived with no wrapper nor tape. Product is working. Will try this summer.

When you just look at the item, it looks like new but when you check it properly the bottom part of the burner, the rubber protective pads are worn, dirty and faded. It looks like it was already used and returned back. It works, heats up but I have not tried to cook anything yet using this burner. I wanted to return the item but don't have time to return it.
