this item makes my TV sound like a dream come true
Lest I be accused of naming other retailers (forbidden! by Amazon's customer review oversight committee) I'll just say I bought this @ The Big C's Big W rival co., not realizing it was meant exclusively for portable media devices (smart phones, tablets etc.). I thought I was going to be able to slide my flash drive into this and I'd have something to listen to when the summer thunder storms come around (I was prompted to do this b/c the flash drive was on clearance for $3.99). I figured I would test this item's usability on my TV which has serviceable sound quality, but not quite what I'd call "great", certainly not audiophile quality...this item makes my TV sound like a dream come true, which I guess it sorta is if you're NOT an audiophile and can't afford a quality sound bar or full blown home theater system....(which I'm kinda in the middle ground between both counts). Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting much, but the product packaging says it delivers "beautiful" sound; OK, I guess it's not downright ugly, but my 22" off brand TV delivers better sound than this. If I was away from home for hours on end, I guess this would be of use, especially for sounds that weren't very detailed or intently being listened to. It's also vaguely possible, for all I know (It's a techie's world; I just live in it) that hooking up a tablet or a smart phone to this would somehow make this sound better, since it's not really "made for" TV (haha! ey?), but I have no way of testing it on a smart phone or tablet, b/c I don't own either. I also don't own an mp3 player. So anyway; take from that what you will and if you know better about that matter, feel free to leave a comment. Also, the test disc I used was a 1999 remastered (exclusive to Japan) CD of Genesis' 1986 commercial apex INVISIBLE TOUCH. The only remaster of that CD that's available domestically is from 2007, where it was not only remastered, but remixed as well, so it not only sounds "better", but is also "different". I personally think the remixing makes it sound worse, but that's totally off topic, and that's a wrap...some would say I need to test it using a newer CD, but the only newer CDs that are even worth listening to in the first place are independently released CDs, Glassnote (CHVRCHES, Two Door Cinema Club, The Radio Dept.), Rise (We Came As Romans, A Skylit Drive), Fearless (Sparks The Rescue, Mayday Parade), Hopeless (All Time Low, We Are The In Crowd); there's a small handful of major label CDs released in the past 10 years that are my cup of tea; The Fray's HOW TO SAVE A LIFE being the only one that comes to mind at the moment...like I said, it's possible that with less attn. demanding music you might find more out of this.
