Waterman Carene
Make sure that you give it a good flush with weak ammonia first - I have three Waterman pens, and they were all a nightmare before this procedure. Now, they are all a joy to use. The balance is perfect, the nib is nice and smooth (medium should be called 'slightly fat medium', heavy, feels expensive, and is really nice to make excuses to use. I write notes and send a copy of them on my phone rather than text - much more personal.Had mine a while now, and it's never skipped or scratched (after the initial clean). So, highly recommended if you like things like this (I do, and I'm prepared to spend over the top to keep this going).

Fountain pen
I paid too much : the money that I paid doesn’t justify the quality of the fountain pen, in addition the information about the productwere misleading .

Works perfectly but no better than cheaper models
After reading the glowing reviews for the Waterman Carene fountain pen I decided to purchase the Black Lacquer model with a fine nib. I am an existing owner of two other Waterman fountain pens - both work fine if maintained properly - both in the £50 price range. From the reviews of the Carene it seemed like several buyers had found the Medium nib too broad so I opted for the Fine nib instead. RRP was £190 and reduced to £95 on Amazon - OK I'll go with that I thought. The pen was ordered at the weekend and arrived the following Monday - good service. As far as the pen itself is concerned - well I took the advice offered in some other Amazon reviews - I flushed with tepid, previously boiled water then left the pen to air try for 24 hrs. Afterwards I filled using the piston filler provided. End result was that the pen worked perfectly. The line width seems about 10% thinner than my other older Waterman pens with medium nibs - so as far as line thickness is concerned I'm happy as a Medium nib would have been too thick. When filled with ink the pen is quite weighty and has a quality feel maybe missing from my cheaper Waterman pens. Is it worth the extra cost over a pen costing about £50? Well the pen itself has a nice quality feel about it and it writes really well - but not any better than any of my £50 pens I have to say. The feel of the nib on the paper and the ink flow are very much the same as my cheaper Watermans but the visual appeal of the pen and the feel in the hand is superior to my cheaper pens. As this pen is reduced from £190 to £95 on Amazon I am happy with my purchase. Had I paid the full RRP I would have felt a bit let down as it does not really do the job any better than a cheaper pen in the Waterman range in terms of the end result i.e. the marks made on paper - but there is definitely a worthwhile pleasure factor associated with using a quality writing instrument even if the end result is just the same as using something more modest in design and quality.
