I LOVE MY "SCHBOOPIE"!!
I was really skeptical about this blade until I saw PreparedMind101's review of it on YouTube. SO I decided to get one and see for myself. I can always use a good machete, right? And there were lots of good reviews on it, so why not? WOW, am I one HAPPY CAMPER! (Literally). I already have an SCHF9 and then saw the PM101 review of the SCHF42. Both of those blades had blown me away and the fact that they both complimented each other so well for my needs, I thought, "What else could I possibly want if I was stranded and had to build a shelter for myself or my family?" That was when I realized that as good as the F9 and F42 were, they were not the best blades for chopping really thick pieces of wood, for a raft or a substantial, long lasting shelter. But I wanted something not as bulky or heavy as an axe. I was even looking at a Smatchet like Matt Graham carries, but the F9 could already fill that mold for the most part. Then, I get a large box from Amazon much sooner than I expected and inside...This SCHBOLO goes above and beyond what a machete, or hatchet can do and it does it well. The handle feels awesome. Comfortable and grippy with no hot spots. I would have no problem digging out a canoe or bashing tent stakes with the flat of this monster blade. It's big, it's heavy, (but not bulky or difficult to wield) and it's tough. The weight does all the work so it's much better than a typical machete. Perfectly suited to the chopping and slashing I need it for. And SHARP! Keeps an edge very well so far. It sliced paper right out of the box and for some reason, the front part of the blade is magnetic! Great for picking up nails, etc... and then pounding them in with the flat of the blade if I have nothing else at hand. I would have absolutely no problem getting to day 21 on "Naked & Afraid" with this puppy, (but I won't subject you to the horror of that vision.) This is one helluva CHOPPER that's for sure. No vibration, or bending. If you want a machete on steroids, then this is exactly what you need. Now, the sheath... I've seen a lot of bad talk about it and I can't speak for earlier issues of this blade, but mine came not only with the long strap, but it also has two loops on the back that have what I assume are leg straps with quick release buckles. These can also be used to attach to your pack. Also included are the diamond sharpener and Ferro rod. The Ferro rod also now has a 90 degree piece of thick steel attached for scraping sparks and it works great. Yes, the sheath is nylon but it seems to be well made and should last at least long enough for me to get a kydex system made for it. The swivel clips holding the strap onto the sheath will probably fail quickly, but a few loops of paracord should take care of that. It's not the best sheath but it is far from the worst, especially compared with the crappy sheaths you get with machetes. The sharpener and Ferro rod make up for any shortcomings as far as I'm concerned. You can keep the SCHBOLO sharp, cut a bunch of stuff down and then set it on fire to dispose of it in one handy package. Like I said... this blade rocks! WHAT ELSE could you possibly need?I will be adding to this review if anything comes up, so check back down the road.Oh, and I have decided to name her "SCHBOOPIE" as I think another Family Guy fan might have named theirs also. For my hard earned money, Schrade has become THE BEST VALUE under $50 in the survival/woodcraft field today. BUY IT! You will love it!"SCHBOOPIE!"

A Super Deal
What does $50 buy these days? In this case, a lot! One might say that the included heavy-duty nylon sheath and removable pouch with diamond sharpener and ferrocerium fire starting rod are nearly worth the price by themselves. Some have noted that is not a bolo, rather it is a barong (?). Also some discussion on whether it truly rates as a "high-carbon" steel - somewhere between 420 and 440 stainless. Regardless, it is a very nice and useful mid-size machete. The handle is rubbery but does not smell bad. Overall length 20 inches with a 12-inch sharpened edge - reasonably sharp but can be made better (some people don't like their chopping tools razor sharp). The 4mm-thick blade is TiNi coated and appears to be full-tang. It has a nice weight but is not too heavy and is well balanced - feels like a Roman short sword. Zombie fans will love the green box and green Schrade logo sewn onto the black sheath - stylish but not overdone. The only thing missing is some paracord for a lanyard, so pick your personal identifying ownership color and add one for safety while swinging it. Excellent deal on Amazon! This item may be going out of production - if so it is a shame. Get one now before they are gone.

Nice knife for the money but.....
The Knife /Machete, is substantial , Its heavy and sharp and pointy! perfect for the money.. I like the cold blue finish they did on this one, its not shinny white, I would have cold blued it anyways to protect it and keep the shine down.I have a Kabar or Becker style (not sure which one I bought) kukri style heavy curved like one of those arab style recurve knives. and a Rtak II 9" with Mircarta scales and the added stainless fasteners. that one has a somewhat decent sheath. I can maybe buy a Spec-ops sheath for that one if they make a really long one. the one that came with that knife has a Plastic insert and nylon outside with the pouch for a multi tool. just a monster knife. So they all seem nice, the problem that they all have is not one has a sheath thats worth 5.00. this Schrade.bolo style knife is nice one , this one I would to love carrying it but again I have to send my friend "Harry the sheath maker " an stencil trace of my knife so he can make me a heavy duty leather sheath. even a good Kydex sheath would have been better than the crummy cardboard covered in nylon cloth sheath I received, and now i have a 75.00 heavy duty leather sheath that has to be made for it, there in lies the problem. the sheath cost more than the knife. I was once told by a wiser man than me that you can judge a knife by the sheath that is made for it., crappy sheath then crappy knife.I trust that it will do the job hacking and chopping and doing the chores I like to use these type of monster knives for. but carrying the knife is the part that scares me, will it fall apart while I'm in the woods and then have to tuck in my pack or shove it inside my belt? there is not even a belt loop so now I have to buy a Tec-loc and attach it to the upper part of the sheath so I can wear it on my belt. I hate the problem of crappy sheaths. Instead of a shoulder strap, how about they make a heavy duty belt loop and throw in a belt rather than that stupid shoulder strap, after all, if you are carrying a knife that big you must be carrying a back pack, so how is that going to work? Kydex is so cheap and easy to make. actually there are guys out there that make awesome kydex sheaths for knives and pistols , I just don't know why schrade had to go and make a nice halfway decent knife and then put it in a crappy sheath that won't last two trips . The price was right, the full tang should hold up. the rubber covered handle fits even my big hands. I guess it will be great for the money you can't go wrong. at 40.00? I would have paid more if it had a decent sheath. but as always most of these knives never show the sheath you have to beg for pictures. well that's my bitching for now. If it breaks I'll add on. but so far it seems the knife will be fine as long as the handle does not slowly slide off the tang, my bet is that its glued on. not molded over a T or Gap where the rubber can grab onto.
