This is a mobile charger, not a jump starter
I again forgot to check the reviews before buying. This is getting returned immediately, now that I realized this is a 20 amp charger, not a jump starter even though it is labeled that way. This item uses dewalt batteries to CHARGE another battery, it does not jump start an engine. With the typical dewalt battery this will provide around 5% of charge, which won't even help with starting a car from a very discharged battery. The uses of this are so incredibly limited.Other jump starters have features to allow a jump start when a battery isn't detected, like if your battery has failed. This will not do that. This product will literally only work if your car battery just happens to be on the very edge of having enough charge to turn the engine over, and even then it will only give you enough charge to attempt one start. So if you have a bad battery that won't hold a charge (which you won't know until you shut the car off next) and you used this to luckily start it, don't let the car shut off until you have a new car battery in hand. Ridiculous. Also, which should be obvious, the lights are covered if you use a large Dewalt battery. As a note, since this is just a charger and not a jump starter, this product is just a voltage regulator, taking the 18v Dewalt batteries (20v max) to a regulated 14.4v. This means this product should cost about $20-30 retail, as the electronics are incredibly cheap. They have bloated the price to the level of other jump starters, when it isn't a jump starter.

I assume it works if your battery is not actually damaged/dead
Believe this works only if your battery will still hold a charge. For ex. you left the car lights on - the next morning you connect this device, turn it on with the boost button, wait for a few minutes while it blinks green until it becomes a solid green, then start the car.It did NOT start my car which appears to have a completely dead battery that will not hold almost any charge at all.i.e. this works only if it is able to charge your car battery to the point where the car battery has enough juice to start the car.If your car battery is actually deeply dead/damaged, and will not hold a charge, this device will NOT start your car. This device will not be able to put any charge into the battery, and without any charge in the car battery, this device by itself doesn't have the oomph to start the car. For that, you would need one of the large 20-30 lb. booster devices that can start cars by themselves.
