Shiro Amano: The Artwork of Kingdom Hearts Paperback – October 29, 2013

I love collecting art books from my favorite artist/series, and since Kingdom Hearts is one of my all time favorites I have yearned an art book for it for years now. When I heard they were releasing one with the preorder of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix I was ecstatic, and when I got it on the release date it was a very lovely book, as it also serves as the disk's case, but just not what I was expecting in an art book. My hope were filled once more as I discovered that another art book was being released by Shiro Amano, the artist behind the Kingdom Hearts manga, which I have also been a fan of over the years.The Mickey Mouse frame is actually a sleeve that covers the book itself, on the back is a keyhole frame showing King Mickey, Namine and a Moogle. The only complaint I have is that on some double page layouts there is a quote from the series, but the text gets cut in-between the crease, it would have been better to have all of it on just one page. This is only a minor issue, since the main focal point is the artwork and should not deter any fan from picking up this fantastic book!This Kingdom Hearts art book only features the original Kingdom Hearts, Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts 2. I did not find anything from 358/2 Days, Birth by Sleep, Re:Coded or Dream Drop Distance, but who's to say we won't in the future?

Upon delivery, the book was in very good condition, and it is of excellent quality-no thin pages and binding that feels like it will fall apart. The collection of illustrations are various and quite large for the most part, so there’s a lot to enjoy on a visual level. Shiro Amano is a very talented illustrator, and this collection shows both his growth in technique and the growth of the KH series. It’s a great product for any KH fan and manga reader to have.

I purchased this for my 17 old, who is a fan of the game series. She loved it. My husband who is also an avid gamer had looked through the book a few times. My 9 year old and I (who are not big gamers) also enjoyed paging through the quality gloss pages. The book came with a plastic protective sleeve to protect the cover which will give it years of life, if properly maintained, and will easily become a beautiful piece to have in one's collection. The Disney quality/Square Enix detail is unparalleled. This book's worth and quality easily surpassed the asking price.

The media could not be loaded.  This book was originally a Japanese edition 天野シロ ART WORKS KINGDOM HEARTS that was published in 2007 and has since gone out of print.This English edition is published by Yen Press. It's a 112-page paperback that comes with a thin plastic slipcase. On the front you have a shape of Mickey's head that's transparent so you can look through to the cover. On the back is a transparent keyhole.The book collects Shiro Amano's artworks from the Kingdom Hearts manga series, namely Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II. If you follow the manga series, you'll have a convenient collection of art from the covers and other illustrations collected here.Fans of the manga would already know what to expect from Shiro Amano, and should probably also like this book. To me, the quality of art is a mixed bag. There are two main styles here which I will loosely classify as painted without outlines, and the more anime and manga style with outlines. The ones with the outlines are generally quite good, the ones without can look kind of rough.There's one issue with the printing of text on several pages. As they are stretched across two pages, text in the middle got into the gutter which makes it difficult to read.For this book, I would definitely suggest checking out the interior pages before buying.(There are more pictures of the book on my blog. Excellent condition! Only the plastic covering had a slit in it but the book was fine! My daughter was surprised and delighted Christmas morning since I had told her not to expect it due to the cost.

Simply the most beautiful thing. Looking through brought back so much great memories of my childhood in a way that I am experiencing it once again.

Friend absolutely loved it, only downside was the plastic cover that it comes with was extremely scuffed - did do its job in protecting the actual book though! Beautiful illustrations inside.

This book was one that I was really looking forward to and it does not disappoint. The art in this book is very well laid out and planned. All the images have their own page and don't have the books' seam running through the middle of the image. Even the pages numbers have been thought through with a different Disney character by each page number. Time was taken in the planning stages and it shows with the final product being very pleasing to the eye and reader friendly. The colour is stunning and the artists improvement can be seen in the progression of the images and also in the commentary at the the back of the book. It's interesting to see process and the reflection the artist has for each piece he worked on. This is a great addition to my Kingdom Hearts manga collection.
