Good product as long as you take care of it.

I have owned two or three of these and two or three of the knockoffs over the past 40 years. I break them, roommates take them when they move out, etc. I have never had one break in normal use, even when repeatecly boiled dry. This model has a handle that is much better designed not to get hot and that alone makes it worth the money. Nothing is as clean as glass and I use it to boil water on the daily, as well as to boil traditional chinese herbs when I need to. To me the extra price is worth the money because of the handle design. I do not use the plastic cap. I found a thick walled mug that engages the top welI fill it with water so it heats slowly, and use it as a cap. Happy to give up whistling to avoid the plastic. I like it clean!Now this is not huge and has a rounded bottom. If you use this on a big gas burner and crank it up all the way, you will get a lot of heat blowing by and the handle will get hot. Just turn it down a bit, take your time, and enjoy the difference clean water makes to your brew.I f you are in a huge hurry, get a large flat bottomed kettle and fill it the minimum amount needed.
