They don't "grip" per say. But I used some rubber cement and put it in the "cup" of the slider. The but the chair leg in there, it's just to give it a bit of stickiness so it doesn't fall off. Sick the leg in the rubber cement and let it dry. Good thing about rubber cement, if you want to get it off, just rubs off. No harm, no foul

We have Oak tung N Groove hardwood floor and grandchildren. These come in a rubber wrap to the chair so no adhesive and you can pull off and rotate to get full use of slider if chair legs are cut odd. Contact with floor vs angle of leg issue.
