KiddeP3010H Worry-Free Hallway Smoke Alarm with Safety Light and 10 Year Sealed Battery

I had no idea when I purchased these 14 years ago they were sealed. Just a few days ago, I heard one chirping and knew the battery was low. I took my original down and realized it was sealed and I had to replace the Smoke Detector....I came onto Amazon, typed the Style Number in, and it appeared...I ordered and replaced the 3 existing ones I have. I took down the old ones and the new ones fit the holder that is up on my ceilings! As soon as you put it up, the Alarm sets itself! I tested it as well and it is perfect! They added a light to help you find your way if there should be a fire, and the alarm goes off in the night! This is a new feature my old ones did not have! I love having peace of mind! It has a spot to mark the date of installation and when to replace the unit! I feel safe and secure!

I am replacing numerous detectors due to a new law in Maryland requiring sealed 10 year batteries. The First Alerts had a better review so I ordered 6 - one for each bedroom. I simply loosened the screws for the old detectors and removed them, and in about 2 minutes each, without drilling a single hole reusing the existing hole locations, I had the new detectors installed. I wanted the hallway light feature of the Kidde model on the top of the steps. It requires a completely unnecessary single hole mount that does not work and requires drilling a pilot hole for a large mounting plastic screw mechanism that was necessary to mount this detector into the ceiling dry wall. Once the mount was screwed into the ceiling, you are supposed to screw on the detector. But it requires so much force, it continues to screw in the mount creating a bigger hole. Then, if you need to remove the detector from the mount - say to paint - the hole mounting mechanism comes out. In essence, I had to mount the detector to the mount and then screw the mount into the ceiling. A very poor design. Also, the First Alerts were manufactured in Dec 2017, less than one month old. The Kidde was manufactured in Oct 2016 or 14 months old. I do not recommend the Kidde design.

Product emits piercing screams if it detects fire, and sometimes if it doesn't.

I bought 4 and within a month one went off at 3:00AM. So far the other 3 are ok.

1) Replacement unit DOA. 2) Previous unit had a flaw, to make it shut up due to a steamy-shower false alarm, my daughter ended up permanently disabling it because the instructions on the back are terrible if you are tired and a loud thing is beeping incessantly at you. "Good Idea, Poor Execution"

You will have to wait 10 years or so before I can comment on battery life. :) Easy install, and everything works in test mode. I hope to never have to use this item.

This product is a great value for the money. Glad for the safety and security this product brings.

They are CRAP. Like the other one star reviews say, they false alarm for absolutely no reason. I had to disable the first one week after installing it because it would not stop going off, even after taking it off the ceiling. I got a replacement from Amazon and it had its first false alarm this morning. It was installed about two weeks ago.As the other reviewers have said, there are NO possible triggers for these false alarms. I have researched them all. Dust, steam, humidity, heat, smoke, cooking etc.These units obviously have defective parts inside and shame on Kidde for continuing to make them and shame on Amazon for selling a home safety product that has been called out by so many for being defective.To add insult to injury, the first unit I received was made in 2013. So Kidde has been selling these defective smoke detectors for at least 5 years. That speaks volumes. These will be the last smoke detectors I buy from Kidde.
