DRIVE AND LEARN
OMG I LOVE THE SIZE OF THE BOOK I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION IT WAS AN ELONGATED VERTICAL RECTANGLE DIDNT READ THE DESCRIPTION AS FAR AS SIZE. I LIKE THE PAPER BOOK BECAUSE I DO NOT GET DISTRACTED WITH APPS ON MY PHONE OR KINDLE HELPS ME COMPLETE THE LESSONS AND FOR THOSE PLACES THAT HAS A CELL PHONE POLICY DURING BUSINESS HOURS PHYSICAL BOOKS ARE STILL WELCOMED EVERYWHERE. I LOVE THE CDS BECAUSE I KNOW CAN DEVELOP AN EAR FOR SWAHILI. FIRM BELIEVER IN NO TEXTING AND DRIVING I CAN NOW ADD TO THE LIST I BELIEVE IN LEARNING WHILE DRIVING. LISTEN TO THE CD TO MY DESTINATION AND READ THE BOOK ONCE I REACH THE DESTINATION.

Nicely put together, but not a good format for learning a language.
Though my teacher recommended this brand...I'll admit it was nicely put together with the information and cultural details; but it just wasn't logical enough for a teaching format. (Perhaps it would be a nice Intermediate Review program.) You can't just jump from the alphabet or learning a few vowels--to an entire paragraph--that they expect you to repeat in a few seconds! That's simply not how the brain memorizes/learns (unless you have a photographic memory). You need to break it down, as well as give enough time to repeat. For example: Besides getting the basics down, like the alphabet, consonant and vowel sounds, etc. You can still have a discussion; but then you need to break that down into vocabulary (with enough time to repeat each word, of course). Then learn the sentences that use those vocabulary words (again with time to repeat). Then practice questions or sentences to reinforce comprehension...I've used other programs (one in particular I prefer) to learn languages with, and would rather use that brand again.

LOVE IT!
Love the Teach Yourself programs! Will definitely be getting more of them in the future! Very nice for beginners. I haven't found it too complicated or anything and everything is very logical to me. It's not a grammar book though it will touch on grammar. With the grammar it tries to integrate it into the conversation you learn so you pick up the grammar as you go which is really how everyone learns a language anyways. The accompanying cd's are good too because they allow you to hear what you're learning and know how to pronounce them. Overall I've found this excellent!

not good system
System of translating conversations is tough to follow. Back and forths are presented in Danish then broken down in phrases into English. Re-using those specific bits is difficult, especially since I've zero prior knowledge. I'd rather vocabulary was introduced then formed into sentences based on demonstrated grammatical rules. Simply, I'd rather learn words than phrases.

Very good
I struggled with which language program to buy - there are so many out there. As a former Peace Corps volunteer who learned Swahili back in the day, I needed more brushing up than starting from scratch. This is a great combo of getting one back up to speed - but I feel would not be too overwhelming for a new learner. My only comment is that I wish the CDs did not need to be used with the book, as listening to them in the car is the most convenient way for me to study.

much better than a phrasebook or any kind of informal training
For me, much better than a phrasebook or any kind of informal training. Gives you a systematic methodology for understanding sentence structure and diction, and the exercises don't completely put me to sleep (trust me, quite an accomplishment). Information is organized really well, would recommend to anyone.

Great Book for Beginners
I thought the book does a great job of breaking down the various verb classes and nouns in a way that is extremely easy to understand. It also does a great job of breaking down the various tenses. You'll probably want a book of verbs to accompany this book, but otherwise, I learned more in 10 minutes than I did in an hour of Rosetta Stone.

Very helpful with the audio CDs
I don't think I have ever learned a language so fast. This book was effective at helping me learn enough Danish to hold a conversation. I am now confident that my trip to Denmark will go well ;). However, it is important that you buy the book with the CDs. Danish is not as phonetic as other languages (almost like English), so it is important to listen to the CDs over and over again. If there was a follow up to this book, I would buy it.

Teach Yourself: Qualität wie immer gut!
Ich mag Teach Yourself, bin ein großer Fan dieser Sprachserien.Die Bücher und Kurse sind alle sehr ähnlich aufgebaut. Man weiß immer was man bekommt. Geniale Lernhilfe

Consigliatissimo

A very good start
This book and CD are great and you should get them if you are serious about learning Swahili. BUT, there are also great apps for iPhone and Android which are better... Get both.
