Excellent product - full featured, and easy to use
This is a great way to sharpen your knives yourself! We used to send ours out to the hardware store, so of course we waited till they were really dull to do anything, and meanwhile struggled with a knife that didn't work very well. and we tried various handy dandy tools, but they really didn't work that well. Our son told us about using a whetstone, and I bought this one because it really had all that you need. Most importantly, it has a wide range of grits, so you can go from a really ratty old knife that needs a lot of work all the way to fine polishing of a pretty sharp knife (or just keeping your knives continually sharp). Also, all the useful tools that make it easier to use, like the wooden base, the rubber pieces that hold them in, and the angle guide. Don't be intimidated by using a whetstone - there are lots of youtube videos that help you learn at first, and once you know what you're doing, it's really easy and fast - especially to just do a few quick strokes to keep your knives continually sharp. I'd recommend this product - it's great, and, given all of the features, its a good value.

Excellent sharpening set. Very professional quality. Impressed!
I am so impressed by this knife sharpening set. It has everything I will ever need to keep all my knives in great cutting condition. I had never known much about sharpening knives, and after I was gifted a lovely Japanese sushi knife, I made the mistake of buying a cheapo sharpening tool at the county fair (they sure are good at selling stuff!), and when using it on my Japanese knife, I guess I held it at the wrong angle or pressed too hard, but I ground small chunks out of the blade, basically ruining it. I was heartbroken and mad at myself, because it’s such a quality knife, or was. So, I decided to not give up and to develop a more professional attitude about it. I watched hours of videos on sharpening techniques, and found how I could grind out the divots in the blade and start over from scratch. Ive done that step so far, and have gotten a basically useable blade just using the largest grit (Step One). I’m already so confident about the results that I’m fine with writing a glowing review about the set. Now I just have to complete the process with the finer grit stones knowing I will have a beautifully sharpened professional knife as good as the original. Some people might complain about the fact that it might take more than one or two strokes to make a knife perfectly sharp, but, as with anything of professional grade, if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well, and I won’t mind spending an hour if it takes that (and it won’t) to bring it back to something even a professional sushi chef would be proud of, razor sharp!Thank you for such a fine quality product.

Good deal, it will take care of your knives.
From a first look into the box, everything thing comes well packed and organized, the wet stones work, they did leave a nice and smooth finish on my knives, the stones work as they should and sharp very well the edges, it's a good deal for the price they charge for the product. A must have if you work in a kitchen or simply like sharp knives.

GREAT set for the money.......
Sharpened up a few kitchen knives ok. I am new to this and after some practice I hope to get razor edges like everyone talks about. Love all the non-skid rubber for stones and bamboo tray. Initially tried to use on old cookie sheet did not work as sheet slid on counter, just set stone and bamboo on counter. There are videos on youtube that show you how to flatten stones as well as sharpen knives. Everything you need is in the box except for water. The stones them selves seem of good quality! Will try some more later as practice makes perfect.

Nice, complete sharpening set
I purchased this as a novice knife sharpener and used it on my old knives yesterday in preparation for my new set of Kan knives that will arrive today. I found it easy to use, attractive (yes, that matters!) and well packaged. My only complaint is that the instructions included are so sparse as to be unhelpful, and the only place to see complete instructions, eg how to use the angle guide, are right here in the product description on Amazon. It would be very nice to be able to print them out and keep the instructions WITH the sharpening set. But in terms of functionality, ease of use, etc., I highly recommend this set.

Very complete water-stone kit with ALL needed accessories for my needs!
I started using this with the most abused wood chisel that I had. The rough stone and honing guide made changing the end from a skewed ended to perfectly square tip by which time the tip was already sharp enough to look normal enough.I then used the remaining three grits and ended up with a razor sharp edge.I followed the directions to build a slurry with water after soaking in water for half hour and using a fine mist sprayer. I found that the small squaring stone needs to be frequenting used to carefully flatten the surface to avoid grooves and dips, otherwise no negatives whatsoever.

Nice set of stones at a good price
I am a novice at sharpening, but wanted a nice set of stones to get started. This is a nice set with a full range of grits. I think a good set of stones is important, but prolly more important is to get in some practice and experience in how to use them well. These have worked really well on all type of cutlery in all conditions of starting sharpness - kitchen knives, hunting knives, pocket knives, scissors. I'm still figuring out the best combinations of grit to start with and when/how to move up through to the finest stone. The base is nice and solid. There is a rubber gasket to hold the stone, but I personally found that to be a bit of a pain and not that necessary. The angle guide seemed like a nice idea, especially for a novice like me. Ultimately I did not find it to be very useful. In part because it will fit differently with different knife/blade types/sizes and also because the angle is different for each knife. I also learned that consistency on the angle is more important than the angle degree itself. I found that watching some experts on YouTube was the best way to pick up some tips and then to just dive in and start sharpening!
