Fun Thriller
This wouldn’t be in my top 10 Star Wars books but it’s a fun read. Zombies on a Star Destroyer is a pretty solid and original scenario. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a spooky Star Wars adventure.

A Different Type of Star Wars Book
I've read many previous Star Wars novels, and they tend to follow a similar story line; lots of light saber battles, spaceships, and conflicts of good vs. evil. But "Death Troopers" is totally different from it's predecessors. There are still elements of the traditional Star Wars story involved, but this novel also contains brutal and gory horror images not found in previous volumes. As for the story itself, the plot revolves around the imperial prison ship "Purge". Over 500 of the galaxy's most ruthless low-lifes are on board. The ship is on it's way to a moon far out in the galaxy to deposit it's load when it develops a problem with it's thrusters. The only hope appears to be in the form of a lone Star Destroyer, floating seemingly abandoned. The captain of the "Purge" decides to try docking with the Star Destroyer in hopes of finding parts to fix their own ship. Two teams are sent to check out the Star Destroyer. However, only half of the team members make it back to the "Purge", and the survivors have brought something far worse than spare parts; a disease so lethal that many are dead within a matter of hours.Only a handful of crew members aboard the "Purge" manage to survive the effects of the lethal disease. Among the survivors are brothers Trig and Kale Longo, medical officer Zahara Cody, the ship's captain, captain of the guards Jareth Satoris, and two rogue smugglers named Han Solo and Chewbacca. Realizing that their ship is being held by a tractor beam, the survivors soon realize that they must board the Star Destroyer to free themselves. Once on board, they discover that the crew is no longer dead, but they have come back to life and are now searching for food...I found this book to be an interesting take off from the regular Star Wars series. The added element of terror faced by the characters made the book exciting to read. Plus, having Han and Chewie involved made the book worth reading, too. The character development is good, especially the characters of Trig, Kale, and Zahara, and the story is exciting and scary.I recommend this book to all fans of the Star Wars series. The story is a scary change of pace that will surely frighten it's readers.

Hold onto your blaster! It's about to get eerie!
A great campfire story, a perfect blend of horror and Star Wars adventure! With seemingly obvious outlooks only to twist and keep this story running! All in all a good read, and addition to the Star Wars Universe. Great for hard core or more casual fans alike.

Books were a little scuffed from the packaging. Cardboard would have been better.
Books were a little scuffed from the packaging. Cardboard would have been better. Other than that, the books are still good. Nothing wrong with them at all.

You will never look at "Star Wars" the same way again after this one...
There isn't much I can say that others haven't already said about this one, set maybe a year before the events of "A New Hope", I can say this, this one had a neat premise, it is not hard to believe that the Empire would conduct a biological experiment that could go horribly wrong cuasing a virus that kills Imperial officers & Stormtroopers & then turns them into zombies, as a nearby prison barge is caught in a desolute Star Destroyer's tractor beam, members of the barge board the isolated Star Destroyer only to bring back the virus that kills all but six, two of the six being Han Solo & Chewbacca, at first I was concerned about this conflicting with the "Han Solo trilogy books(Paradise Snare, The Hutt Gambit, Rebel Dawn), however in "Rebel Dawn" Han & Chewbacca are notably absent for 5 to 6 chapters, so with that being said, this one does not conflict with continuity as some have suggested, this is where they were in terms of their absence, the first half is a bit slow, however when the six survivors board the Star Destroyer, that is where the scary fun begins, as Han, Chewie, pretty doc Zahara, two brothers & prison captain Jareth encounters the walking dead in the dark corridors, Han's swagger is ever so present especially when him & Chewie make their way to the command bridge & Han's notice of the pretty doctor, Jareth's redemption & zombies everywhere, again there isn't much I can say that hasn't already been said, all I can say is that if you like a good scary read & are a SW fan, this is a must have.

Excellent story, poor quality!
SPOILER FREE REVIEW:-A great story line, you aren't overwhelmed with all the characters but there's enough to not warrant any chapters feeling like filler. Stakes felt very real for the characters and a few on edge moments.-As for the condition, well It wasn't in the best shape. Wrinkled pages along the top and moment midway through, a reasonably large tear of sorts on the back but no damage to any of the story so nothing to book ruining.-Overall if you're looking to get into Star Wars reading and you like horror then give it a go, of course this book does fit under "Legends" so isn't canon to the movies yet that doesn't stop a good read.

My first Star Wars book. I was not disappointed.
No spoilers but..... There are two characters in the book which gets rid of a bit of suspense (when you read it you'll know why)The zombies are awesome. It is well written and a very enjoyable read.It was also my first eBook. Which wasn't as bad as I expected. (but that's for a different review)

Fun short sci-fi read
I picked this up after seeing it recommended following the Thrawn trilogy. As a fan of undead scifi and Star Wars I was happy to give it a try. The premise is straight forward and to the point, with characters that are simplistic and relatable, making this an easy going read. However I didn't think it was necessary to shoe-horn canon characters into the mix.Overall a short and entertaining read, especially for the price. Would recommend for fans of space horror, but not for Lucas purists (no canon story elements here).

Zombies in space
This book started really well and I liked the Alien vibe to the first third of the story but when things were getting interesting two main characters from the original star wars trilogy show up. This kind of ruined the premise a bit and took away from the sci fi horror of the plot. I don't want childhood heroes fighting space zombies. The story would have been much better if we had just had random new characters instead. Was a good read though

Very enjoyable, but doesn't quite suit the setting
When I saw the cover for Death Troopers earlier in the year I knew this was a book that I had to read. There was something about a darker Star Wars novel that piqued my interest even though I've never read anything in the expanded universe before. I expected good things from Death Troopers, but as a newbie to Star Wars novels I wasn't entirely sure whether these expectations would be justified. I'll say one thing about Death Troopers - Joe Schreiber knows how to write an exciting, atmospheric and entertaining read, but I'm not sure it's suited to the Star Wars setting...With the prison barge Purge as the setting we are introduced to a few characters that will take us through Death Troopers. The main ones of these are Trig and Kale Longo, the ships doctor Zahara Cody and the chief of the prison guards, Jareth Sartoris. Each of these has a good section devoted to building their characters and as such they have a good depth to them that allows us to enjoy the story told through their eyes. We also have a couple of more familiar characters that simply steal the story once we meet them, which is a bit of a shame because it would have been great to continue the story without these additions to the cast. The story itself is more than satisfying and has an effective build up that includes some damned creepy moments before everything hits the fan. The build up is especially good as it not only introduces the characters, but also sets the scene and atmosphere on both the Purge and Star Destroyer. Once we get past the set up we are firmly in zombie territory, and while the fan boy in me loves this sort of thing, I can't help but think it turns into a run-of-the-mill escape the zombies scenario. It's still a well written and entertaining story though!I'm also not entirely sure it suits the Star Wars setting. This, as far as I know, is unlike anything else in the Star Wars universe and it feels a little wrong. There are many things I can believe would happen in this setting, but Death Troopers pushes the envelope too far. But, and this is an important but, I enjoyed Death Troopers so much I'm willing to put this gripe aside. Shallow, I know, but when you read something you enjoy this much you do give more ground than normal. So on the whole I would recommend Death Troopers to any sci-fi and zombie fans that want a good and entertaining read. It's not perfect, but the issues I think Death Troopers has can be overlooked for sheer enjoyment factor. Definitely one to read!
