Wonderful resource for all kinds of families!
I had high expectations for this book after reading the reviews on Amazon. I'm happy to say that I definitely was not disappointed! This book is fantastic! It has rituals and traditions for every family -- religious and secular. The topics covered include birthdays, back to school, holidays, pets, family nights, and many more. Just a wonderful, wonderful resource for all kinds of families. My only very minor complaint is that there were A LOT of religious traditions. I would have liked to see some more secular traditions. But even still, many of the religious rituals could be modified for the secular family. Really a fantastic book!

Excellent resource
This is a fabulous book if you're looking to commemorate holidays or other life events with the children in your life. Great ideas.I also purchased The Joy of Family Traditions: A Season-by-Season Companion to 400 Celebrations and Activities at the same time. I've found that the books do not contain a lot of redundant information and are quite good together.I highly recommend this book!

Don't waste your money
Don't waste your money, you can just go to google and find all of the recommendations - lame stuff like half birthday parties.

I wanted to write this book!
This is such a needed book....I actually had an outline to write a similar book myself and as part of my competing titles research I found this one. I've been a divorce lawyer/mediator for 21 years and perhaps the hardest part of the whole divorce is figuring out how to move on.....how do you celebrate Christmas when you don't have your kids on December 25? How can you redefine the holiday to be more than that, and even perhaps on a different day? This is really tough, and I know that parents do a lot of grieving around this issue.I love that the book has specific instructions and lots of step-by-step as well as illustrations. I've watched clients who've been through a divorce struggle and by the time the divorce is over, they're out of ideas and energy. The 1-2-3 approach in this book can help even the most exhausted or depressed parent get through those first few holidays. And for those who aren't struggling to that degree, the ideas are fun, creative and different.

Only OK
I got this book based on the previous great reviews. To be honest, I found it quite disappointing to find that it is based on various cultural traditions that I have no intention to follow. I guess, my expectation was that it would present more original familly rituals not tied to any particular culture, if you get my meaning.
