One should read it just to enjoy the author's style
This is a prize winning story. It tells how a girl finds a dog when she goes shopping at Winn Dixie. The girl and the dog build a strong relationship. The story is revealed in a clever manner by the author. One should read it just to enjoy the author's style. It was required reading for fifth grade students in the Fort Bend ISD three years ago. I enjoyed how the author creates scenes through the use of adjectives and adverbs. He writes in a Faulkner like manner. I felt that the plot was believable. I enjoyed the story.

Sadly, the pages were out of order. Also, some of the pages were upside down. Crazy! I fixed it so it could be used. Otherwise, the content was good.

Because of Winn Dixie Teacher Guide by Novel Units, Inc.
It gave me a lot of ideas to use with the book. I did not use all the ideas but I had enough to keep the students interacting with the book.

Terrible
Don't buy this if you are a teacher. It had nothing that I could use. I got more for free off the Internet.

I love this book because Winn- Dixie was like a therapy dog for Opal.
I can relate to the special bond between a dog and a little girl whose mother was no longer around. Winn- Dixie was like the brother that Opal never had. Opal was new to Naomi Florida and didn’t know anyone. Winn-Dixie became her best friend. Because of Winn-Dixie, Opal was able to start interacting with her neighbors. This book reminds me of how my own dog, Lucky, helped me to meet and greet all my neighbors. I am an adult and I find this book inspiring. If you are looking for inspiration or your children are looking for inspiration read this book. You will fall in love with the characters.
