Delightful
This author makes history come alive with his discussion of origins of the street names of NewOrleans. The original edition was written in 1949 and some corrections were made in second edition in 1954

Best book for the history of New Orleans
I remember when I first read this book in 1960. Chase was a cartoonist for the New Orleans Times-Picayune and an editorial cartoonist for WDSU Tv. Gives one of the most comprehensive history of New Orleans. Bought the paperback for my wife and the kindle edition for my computer.

Evrerything about New Orleans streets
I had read this book previously and loaned it, never to be returned. It has a ton of information and anecdotes on New Orleans streets, neighborhoods and the history behind them. It could use a a new addition addressing the changes since the original publication.

Informative and Fun Book!
I am from New Orleans and loved the book - interesting details I didn't know or perhaps didn't remember. I took a trip to New Orleans shortly after reading the book and I was telling my friend who still lives there about different areas. We were on Poydras and I told her the part of Poydras we were on had been a lake at one time. Will read again at some point.

New Orleans streets
All the trivia information you every wonder or wanted to know is here. Well written and researched. My thanks to John Chase. I wish he had put more information on Good Children street, where the rich men kept there quadroom mistress.

Well worth it
I really like this book. I own both the hard-copy and the Kindle version. It is funny, has a bunch of information about the history of New Orleans street names. The only thing is that it is a bit uneven, the first part of the book is very good but then it appear to run out of steam and becomes tedious to read.

great history
Bought this book for myself when it was recommended by a friend who read it years ago. So glad to be introduced to it, I bought a couple as gifts for friends.Great history of New Orleans that is not presented in the history books. The street names here are quite different, and it is fun to know how and why it is the name it is.
