Book is well organized and lots of example code with every chapter. I have been working with .NET framework with 10+ years but havent had a chance to work with .NET Core. Wanted to learn what .NET Core has to offer. I followed the examples and build projects from each chapter - starting with with chapter 1 through 7 and picked up valuable .NET core knowledge along with understanding vital differences between .NET framework and .NET Core. Book assumes that you already have some background with .NET, Angular etc. and does not teach you basics. Book is ideal if you already have solid understanding of .NET framework, C# and Angular. You can quickly pick up what Core as to offer by working through examples in this book.

Cleared up a lot of web api questions I had.

This book requires a lot of detective work, This is not a step by step book. The author does not lay out everything you need to do, rather he will give you a general sentence that you have to google to figure out what he is talking about. He is not detail oriented, often mentioning things that needed to be done first as a last step. It makes troubleshooting your exercises hard and isn't conductive to the learning experience.If you are an intermediate or above programmer, this will likely not be that big a problem, as you can get through it but be annoyed( i consider myself intermediate).If you don't know anything about .ASP already or prefer step by step clear instructions- this is not a book for you.

I have been trying to follow the examples in this book for four weeks now, and I'm finding it very difficult. On typing in the example codes, errors appear all over the place, and I've found that the explanations why I'm getting these errors are either hidden in the text following the example, and usually hard to find, or I have to go back to the downloaded samples to get the correct code, or there's no explanation at all and I have to rely on common sense and experience. I've only got to chapter 3, and I'm floundering already, and I consider myself to be a fairly experienced programmer. There must be a more easy to follow book on this subject out there.

To use a metaphor, imagine you want to learn to drive. If your dad has been teaching you for a year and you are ready for the test, you might be looking for a few hours with an instructor to make sure you don't have any bad habits. There are loads of books that work like this when teaching software development. This one isn't one of those. It's like being in a classroom, with an experienced instructor, who assumes you know C# and html, and perhaps a bit about Visual Studio. From there you are introduced to the concepts and the methodologies, following step by step guides on what to do. For me it made the process of assimilating knowledge painless. I have to say, other books on this subject that I have tried ended up in the bin because of the gaps they left when explaining coding. Don't you just hate it when a writer throws in loads of jargon just to sound like they are expert and 'on trend'. About the only comment I'd make is that, having reached chapter 4, I now feel like I'm ready for more complex subject matter, like rolling my own user and role management pages. Maybe I shouldn't have thrown those other books away!

A lot of the code is incomplete / does not compile a lot of the classes mentioned are also incorrectly typed. Returned and bought a different title a little older which explained core better with actual working code.
