not perfect
I bought this product at the local target for $269 + tax.The plan was simple: provide videos from my iPod to my kids sitting in the 2nd and 3rd row of the car. The primary unit only has AV out while the second unit only has AV in.This makes sense if you want to watch DVDs but it also means you can't plug video games or ipod for videos on both units. The cable to link the primary unit to the secondary is also barely long enough to link both units when installed on the first row head rests. If you add to this that my original plan was to go from first row head rests to second row head rests, this is way too short. Luckily, these units use a standard composite cable which makes it easy to buy an extension. The monitors are not very bright but the resolution is decent and the size makes up for it.The deal breaker for me was the sound level: it's totally unacceptable for car use. I even plugged in my noise cancellation headset with an amplifier without much improvement. And I have a brand new ultra quiet SUV.With that, there's no AC adapter so your only choice is to use it in the car.I'm returning the units.

Good for the price
Just installed the system in our Toyota Sienna today.. Both the units can function as a stand alone, or be slaved together for 1 dvd 2 screens. This will be a handy feature for kids movie on one screen, older movie on another in seperate rows. The audio is via a single small speaker, but when both are in use, its acceptable quality in a quiet car. The option is there via a seperate cable (sold seperately) for plugging it into external audio (like car speakers), or plug into the handy headphone jack.My biggest gripe is that the video screen on the 'slave' unit is a much lower quality then the main screen... this is not due to calbes, etc.. as a dvd played on the unit itself has fuzzy lines, etc.. what a shame to cut corners there. The av jacks are standard size, so feel free to bring your own length of cable for longer runs... the supplied power cables are very long.

built well, but poor sound
Unit is solid and the picture is good, but the audio system is underpowered. The built in speaker is tiny, and the internal amp makes it hard to hear in a noisy car even with headphones. (non-noise canceling cheap ones anyway).I'm going to return my unit. I've been very happy with AudioVox in the past, I'm surprised this unit got through basic testing. I anticipated the problem when I put in a DVD in my living room, before I even tried it in the car.Note: Unit doesn't come with a 120V adapter, but does have a stand for putting it on a table. Presumably you can use any 12V adapter that fits.

Units died. VERY DISSAPOINTING - Shame on Audiovox!
We bought these units during the 2008 holidays on the recommendation of a friend. The kids were sooo excited. The units worked well at first, although the sound was never great. We used them three times during the past 5 months for car trips; and the last time we tried to use them (returning from our last trip) they just died. We tried replacing the fuse to the car adapter which we read on the net was a common problem with the units, but to no avail. I wish I had read these reviews before I made the decision to spend $200. We feel like we've been robbed.

very happy
we bought these a few years ago for our kids in the back seat. We have taken them to 6 or 7 different countries as we travel a lot and they have been great. Keeping in mind that they are for kids in the backseat or in the hotel they are really good for the price. We did have to replace a set of cables, but otherwise with the headphones on, everyone is happy. I have to recommend these as good, backseat video screens. We are very satisfied. I do wish I could figure out how to unlock the zones as we have a number of foreign DVDs that won't work

Buy the Warranty. It will Fail - But great features
I read the previous reviews for AudioVox CAR DVD players and the repeating theme seemed to be that just one day it will just stop working. I bought mine at target and did get the extended 3 year warranty based on the reviews here at AMAZON.The reason we got this AudioVox Player was that it was on sale for 229 at target about 6 months ago. I see right now it is close to 450.00 on Amazon. . . way to high for this item.Pros: Dual DVD player. Yes you can watch 2 movies one on each player. This is excellent! Allows one player to be a slave, and both will show the same movie. Lies flat against the headrest (Some Clamshell Models stay in an L shape.) Change DVDs while mounted on Headrest (Some other models require you to unmount or remove from Mount to change the DVD.) Picture quality was a 7.5 out of 10 which was well above what I expected. ESP (Electronic Skip Protection) was very good; We were on some trips with pretty rough roads and they did not skip. Mounting is easy to install and easy to remove for taking into the hotel (SEE cons on Cables also).CONS: Based on other reviews and my experience the Audiovox DVD players are not very reliable, and I would say 1 to 2 years is about all you will get out of them. Mounting Strap was a little annoying for the person in the seat they are mounted to. Created a Lump in the middle of the Headrest. slight inconvenience, but not a deal breaker. CABLES: The cable lengths are to short to run from one row to the row behind it. Unless you leave the cables draped across in the air, and this is not good with kids. I had to splice in additional cabling for audio and power to extend the cables under the seats. By design the cables were made for side to side viewing on the same row. The big negative on the cables is it only comes with one plug, so you have to Slave the second DVD player off the first for power even if you are not watching the same DVD.Over all I would say if this meets your requirements then definately buy it for UNDER 300, and ONLY WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY (should be about $20)!Have fun.Rob
