Excellent purchase and worth the money
This code reader is very easy to use. It came with a book that explains everything, which is worth the money alone. Very handy and helpful.

Works as advertised
Pretty simple to use once you realize the plug only connects to 2 pins not all 3 and you put the plug on the right way.Didn't have any trbl with the blades pushing in...

Need this for older obd systems!
We have all kinds of scanners in our shop....none for the 1990 vehicle. This was great, let us know our codes!

Seriously? You Have to Fix the Pins Right Out Of The Box?
I like the Reader and I'm keeping it and despite the cost the extension cable is good to have so you can do the engine running tests from the inside of the cab. But it's really true about the tester pins, they aren't worth a ,,,,,,, well,,, they aren't secured very well to the Reader body. Right out of the box, plugging the cable in the first time, the reader wasn't connecting with the truck computer. Having read several reviews about the crappy pin construction, it's the first thing I checked and it was true. Just the action of pushing the extension cable on to the Reader's connection pins caused a couple of them to recess down into the Reader's body. So having read several reviews about the poor pin construction I followed their advise and crazy glued the base of each pin to the Reader body. Problem solved. All the tests completed AOK. However, it's another reason to buy the expensive extension cord, once you get the cord and reader connected and it makes good contact with your vehicle computer, just bypass the poor pin construction issue and just leave the cord connected to the Reader all the time, doing your vehicle connections via the ext. cable. The cord's pins are much better constructed. I like the Reader and am keeping it. This review would have been a 5 but the pin issue is a big negative. Make sure when you order your Reader and ext. cable, be sure to add on a tube of Crazy Glue. It'll all be good after that.

Pins do not stay, get extension cable.
Believe the reviews. The pins push right into the unit as soon as you try and connect it to car.I purchased the extension cable being I want to be inside the car with it running to check codes. Here is what I did to use the reader successfully:-Remove to battery and battery door-Using a flat head screwdriver carefully split the case on the scanner-Using small needle nose pliers, hold the pins from the back on the inside of the scanner-Carefully and slowly work each pin back thru the top of the scanner case and into the extension cable-Temporally electrical tape the scanner case back together-Insert battery and replace battery cover-Test unit on vehicleIf the scanner works correctly at this point, you can remove the tape and use some kind of adhesive glue around the edge of the vase to permanently reattach it. As long as you dont remove the extension cable, it will work as intended. The book of codes and instructions that comes with it is very good. Lots of detail and explanations. Without the extension cable, one would have to figure a way to glue or permanently afix the pins to the top of the case. Doesnt seem like an easy or lasting way.My take:Get the extension cable, follow some form of my instructions, be happy with scanner.

This 3145 model is ONLY for 91-94 f150s w/ 7.3l engine.
READ BEFORE PURCHASE!!! Then 3145 model I purchased did not work on my 93 f150 4.9. The male pins on it do not match up the the female pins on my trucks data tes t plug. Made 3 jumper terminal wires with males on one end and females on the other ends I tried every (9) combinaton. Nope. Called Innova tech support. They said it ONLY works with 91-94 fords with the 7.3l engine! Page 7 of the owners manual actually list my particular truck but was told that was an error. I asked what model reader do they have that would work for my truck and was told that they do not make one!!! All the reviews must be a conglomerate of all their readers for varoius other vehicles.
