Why doesn't this iodine react to foods with starch? I read that colourless iodine should turn foods with starch red but nothing happens. Is it iodine?

Hi White Iodine is not suitable to use to test for starch. White Iodine is a solution that contains only Potassium Iodine. The Iodine solution required to do a starch test is an Iodine solution that contains both Potassium Iodine and Iodine. When using the correct solution of iodine and potassium iodine, the colour will turn a blue black colour when starch is present, not red.

What was this Iodine derived from?
