Best kitchen purchase I've made in 5 years
Who needs an electric kettle? The stove top kind work just fine! I don't need another appliance cluttering up the place!I thought all of those things too. How wrong I was! I've had this bad boy for a day and I can not tell you how stupid I feel for not only doubting its awesomeness but also for not having bought one years ago.Let's get into the nitty gritty:It's fully stainless steal on the inside with the cap up top being the only piece near the water that is plastic. There is no funky chemical or plastic smell with this kettle. The heating element is in the base of the kettle, not the inside. The water level markings, as someone else mentioned, are on the handle side of the inner chamber which really isn't that big of a convenience unless you want to fill it to the max level.'*edit: I wrote here about the lid no securing and was corrected! The lid DOES lock into place with a snap.It will automatically turn off as soon as water comes to a boil. I have a small studio apartment and can hear the "click" of this turning off no matter where I am.You can set the kettle down any which way on the base and it will work, there is no "secured position" that it needs to be. Handle may face any direction.Another small feature I really enjoyed was the cord to this can be wrapped up INSIDE the base and secured so that while not in use the cord is completely out of the way. You can wrap it around once for a smaller cord or twice to completely hide it. Such a nice feature since I have such a tiny kitchen! It heats up pretty quickly, faster than water on the stove.**Update 1/21/2014** This kettle has brewed its last cuppa. I purchased this August 1st, 2012 and today when I went to unplug it the grounding plug stuck in the outlet. It lasted about a year and half. Don't regret my purchase at all. I used this daily to brew many, many cups of tea. I thought about upgrading to a better one but the price jump is so significant I might just buy another one of these.

For $20, a great bargain, and still working fine.
I started drinking tea during my last year of college, when I discovered that the flagship store of Harney & Sons Fine Teas, a relatively new but very quality tea company, was located less than an hour away. For a long while I used the many hot water dispensers located throughout campus, but eventually I opted to get a regular stovetop teakettle. But in a dorm with two kitchens per floor, getting consistent use of the stove wasn't always possible. So when I saw several friends with electric kettles, I decided to do some research and get one myself. I picked this one. What more is there to say? The kettle boils water consistently, shuts off after boiling, and is easy to handle and pour. I haven't burned myself on it except as the result of, on a couple occasions, my own exceptional stupidity. There is some minor discoloration of the interior, but this is easily removed by some firm scrubbing, even though my wrists and hands are a bit large to fit through the top. The only exterior wear evident is that the markers on the on/off switch have started to chip, but after the hundreds of times I've switched it on and off, I can hardly complain, and this in no way affects its function. As of this writing it is sitting next to me on my desk, having just boiled water for yet another cup of tea. I hope I will not have to replace it for some time, but it has already exceeded my expectations, and I would absolutely purchase it again.

Poor quality and warranty service
My previous brentwood kettle was in service for 13 years, so it was easy to figure out the brand when it was time to replace. Such a naive idea. Item got broken after 2 months. It just stopped turning on.Ok, its new and it has 1 year warranty. Such a joke. I've emailed them, got bunch of questions asked and finally they gave me a favor - keep the broken item (they say normally they request to send it back to them) and pay them 20$ to send the replacement.Score logic - brand loyalty 5 stars - 2 starts for the defect - 2 stars for such warranty.Summary - look for any other any brand.
