Some clarification
First off, all the other reviews posted here are factually *wrong.* This soundtrack does not include "Duvet," the song from the main title sequence. That song is available in a remixed version on the Cyberia remix record, and the original version is on "Twilight" by Boa.The material on this soundtrack is incidental music from the show itself, composed by Nakaido Reichi. It includes several instrumentals, as well as the ending theme and a song sung (presumably by Reichi) called "Signal of Loneliness."So how is it? Well, mostly, pretty good. If you've seen the show, you know that, like Cowbody Bebop, the music is quite varied in style and has a great impact on the show itself. Quite a few styles are on display here, from the almost '70s guitar rock of "Theme from Lain" to the Pixies-meet-techno of "Free Zone" and "Pulse Beat" and the balladry of "Different Dimension of Fog." The music is nothing if not eclectic.Overall, this holds together well as an album, and it's varied enough not to sound like a soundtrack per se. Reichi's a pretty creative guy, even if the nasally, over-distorted guitar tone wears thin on a few tracks. My favorite tracks are the faux-jazz of "Just Like a Lizard," and "Family Portrait," which for some reason reminds me of Bruce Cockburn's quieter instrumental stuff. It's an enjoyable record for the most part. Just bear in mind that, if you're looking for a comprehensive compendum of music from the show, you're going to have to spend alot of time and money, as the music is spread over several different, hard-to-find imports. The Cyberia record is mostly remixes and music from a couple of the Cyberia scenes, and there is a third soundtrack record called "Bootleg" which has alot of the shorter incidental pieces. As far as the title song, the original version is also available on a self-titled cd single as well as the Boa full-length and an Ep called "Tall Snake."

Its O.K.
Overall it's a decent sound track that has more of the Club Cyberia sound than anything else. Most of the tracks are just music. The closing theme is present but (much to my disappointment) the opening theme was not.And even though Lain is shown with an acoustic guitar none of the songs are acoustic based. I found that funny. It was a hard choice between rating it either 3 or 4 stars but I'll go with four.
