Intelligentsia Certified Organic French Roast - 12 oz - Dark Roast, Direct Trade, Whole Bean Coffee

I first tried this brand of coffee at a local cafe and fell in love with it! I have been a coffee drinker for almost 15 years now and this is by far my favorite! It's smooth, mild and wildly good (way better than any coffee I've had at Starbees, or any other coffee shops/franchises). It doesn't leave that bitter taste in my throat afterwards and goes really good with all my coffee creamers. It is whole beans, but they chop up nicely in my bean blender (lol), and smell amazing! One of the best features is the bag is resealable so they don't spoil. I have subscribed so I get this every month without fail :) Even though I have to order it more frequently when family visits (they say I have the best coffee in the world).

I wasn't too satisfied with the roast date on the bag being more than a month old. If they are freshly restocked I would expect a roast date within a week or two. That being said the French Roast was pretty solid. It was not overly roasted like other french roasts. If the beans were fresh I would probably give the beans 5 stars. Next time I will pay the extra money and get the beans fresh from Intelligentsia's website.

I drink my coffee black, so I have to drink GOOD coffee! Intelligentsia is one of the best coffees out there, this particular roast is not bitter like some French Roasts. This is a million times better than Starbucks or any other chain coffee joints. I live near an Intelligentsia coffee shop and all of their coffees I have tried did not disappoint.

I have bought this a few times. It is decent coffee, but nothing outstanding. The coffee has not been exceptionally fresh or particularly outstanding from coffee beans at a lower price.

Over the years, my husband and I have become coffee connoisseurs. In other words, we spend a little more on coffee for ourselves because we really do not spend money on ourselves. We discovered Intelligentsia while traveling in Chicago. It has a wonderfully unique, delicious flavor and will not disappoint anyone who likes a real cup of coffee.

I like to taste a little more roast, but the beans are supreme!

Really disappointed in Intelligentsia for selling VERY OLD roast via Amazon. I ordered the French roast that was roasted 02/2009! That makes the roast more than 6 years old. It's really really unfortunate. I wont buy it online again.

Other reviewers have noted that the date on their bag of Intelligentsia coffee was old, and that they were disappointed by the lack of freshness. I just received my bag last week, and it didn't even have a date! No "packed on" date, no "sell by date," nothing! I opened it and was immediately disappointed by the aroma- it just didn't have that fresh smell that I expect from expensive, high-end coffee. What's more, I just wasn't impressed with their version of French Roast- too "burned" tasting for my liking, but that is admittedly a subjective thing. I am a big fan of their Black Cat espresso, which I brew with my Aeropress. Good stuff. But in the future I will purchase my Intelligentsia coffee elsewhere.
